I saw that, thanks! We will keep you posted if anything changes. I live in central Oklahoma so it's not to far for me. I just have to get the components and fire up the reloading press. Oh yeah, and get the grandson a new rifle :D  See ya, Bob

I on plan on bringing a 22-250 and a .223. While 55gr. FMJ are not the best for varmints in .223 I have a good quantity of hand loaded FMJ's. Would it be acceptable to bring those?

gnnr i would not take FMJ to a P. dog shoot, They are bad Ricshay (sp)
And travel along ways, Might get some thing you don't want.
That is very flat open country  out where will be. Use soft point or HP Pills.

That's what I was thinking but didn't know if the country was flat or hilly. Definatly don't want a round bouncing off into the unkown.
I'll loadup some varmint rounds that will break up on impact.
Thanks,  Bob

At many of the locations you will be shooting you'll be shooting directly toward a road you can see traffic on or toward buildings and/or cattle. They will generally be off a fair ways but in easy sight and thus easy range if that bullet doesn't break up on impact.

I know some use .45-70s and other rounds prone to carry a long way past initial impact and there are places where such will be safe but you never know where you will be placed or what the shot opportunities presented will be. I did get to use my H&R .30-30 at one location with a nice tall hillside as a back stop. But for the most part I shoot ONLY bullets I KNOW will disintegrate at impact with PD or ground.

I love my little .17 Fireball with 20 grain bullets at 4000 fps super flat and accurate and no matter what that little bullet hits it stops rat there.

Thanks all.  My main concern is for safety. The 22-250 likes 52 gr. HP's so that's not an issue. I may bring the .223 just in case the situation is appropriate. But, as long as I'm looking at getting the grandson a rifle anyway I may have to explore another caliber he,he,he...

See ya,
Bob

The .223 is a fine choice "with appropriate bullets" most everyone will have one.

Well so far I am planning on bringing the .223 Handi, .220 Swift Handi, the .17 HMR Savage, and if I can find some light bullets that shoot and will break up I might bring out the 6.5-284 for it maiden voyage. I wonder if the light v-max bullets will work in it? That is what I will be using in the .223 and .220.

Dan isn't there a newer and nicer hotel/motel up in Guymon? I seem to recall the road you live on comes out on the highway between Hooker and Guymon not all that far from Guymon so that it wouldn't be too much out of the way to come to your house from there. Am I remembering correctly? If so what's the name of that motel.

I'm thinking it was under construction when we were out there for the first shoot and is now open and that maybe there is even another one as well.

The Super 8 in Guymon is a nice motel, clean and very reasonable rates, its about the same distance as Hooker from Dan's place, that's where I've been staying and have reservations again this year.

Thanks good info. Can you give me the contact infor for them? Is that the one that was newly build not so long ago? Right on the main drag into town on the left coming from Hooker?

I think that's the one you are talking about, its on the east side of the road on the north side of Guymon, its right on the edge of town, it looks like its only a few years old.

I make all my reservations online, Super 8 like so many others has senior discounts, Triple A discounts, the "Best Available" rate is usually a higher price than the other discounts, I know...it doesn't make any sense but that's the way it works, use the Best Available rate only if you have to.

I stayed at the Super 8 the first yr I went. Very nice and the $$ was reasonable. Not much differance in drive times to Dan's very good option to use if ya can't get in at the Cole Family Inn. Kurt
