New Gilsson Antenna
« on: February 01, 2009, 03:03:34 AM »
I see that Gilsson has a new 55dB antenna. I have the 28dB antenna for my Garmin 76CX and it will usually lock in 10-12 satellites, many at full strength. I wondered how the new one would compare. They said the new one takes more power and did not recommend it for battery only use.

Herman:

I'll have to look up the new antenna, I get such good reception with the 28db it is hard to imagine needing a more powerful unit unless you drove a taxi in New York City when the depth of a large city.

I bought mine back when I was using a 76C, usage dropped once I got the 76Cx and the 530HCx.  Usage has picked up some with the use of an automotive c550 Street Pilot.  The c550 will normally do okay without it.  With new laws being enacted regarding the mounting of an automotive gps units reception becomes tougher.  I just made up a mount for my c550 taking advantage of an unused pocket in the dash of my pickup.  Out of luck with the wife's car.

Herman, your link worked.  I checked the Gilsson website and they do not show it.
http://www.gilsson.com/external_gps_antenna_comparison.htm

I might give them a call and ask about it tomarrow when I get home.  Thanks for the link.

I normally highlight the address, right click on it, and select copy.  I then select paste and put the address in my post.
