Where is this Dahlgren Boat Howitzer model today?
« on: February 01, 2009, 08:30:49 AM »
Hope you can read this letter, it says the workshops at the Washington Navy Yard built a model of the Dahlgren Boat Howitzer in 1851.  Today, it isn't in the Washington Navy Yard collection, isn't at the US Naval Academy, and it isn't the one at the Lincoln museum.  I think all the Navy models the Smithsonian had were borrowed from the Naval Academy.  I'd like to know if anyone knows its present location.  This is almost an academic question, since it is probably gone, but if it exists in some museum somewhere I'd like to go photograph it.

Here's a direct link to the pic which might be easier to read.
