how many others have the same problem with wooden stocks

I purchased a new bantam wood stock for my encore a month and a half ago.  I like the shorte rlength of pull.  Anyway with its second trip to the range, it cracked on the back.  This is the second stock that has done this to me.  I know I can send it in and get a replacement stock, at my shipping cost to send it in.  Plus this is my go to gun for hunting. I own a 7-08 barrel and a 209x50 barrel.  If they made a synthetic stock in bantam, I would buy one and be done with the hassles.  I am considering selling both barrels and using the frame for only the 308 pistol barrel I am planning to get.  It frustrates me to no end.  The gun shoots very well with both barrels, but I am not looking forward to sending back a stock every 4 months to get it replaced. Am I alone in this dilemma?

Has to be a reason why you are splitting stocks, especially if in the same place each time.   Nobody else is as far as I've heard anyway.   Exactly where are they cracking?   My guess would be the grip/wrist.

Offhand the only thing that makes much sense (short of defective stocks)... maybe you are over tightening the grip bolt and putting a bind on the stock.    ???

the first one cracked down next the trigger on the bottom this one busted out a piece on the back behind the flat part of the frame.  When I got the stock, the gunsmith put it on for me, so I doubt it was over tightened, but I guess that is possible.  Seems funny it is twice but different frames.  I am thinking that some stocks, barrels and forends on the classifieds very soon and just use the frame for a pistol.

This is not a new problem.  I have seen many posts about it here over the years.

I had a walnut one break on my wifes Encore.  It broke through the wrist I guess you would call it.

My walnut Encore was older and had been shot more and it never had a problem.

A friend of mine had a synthetic stock break with a 375 H&H on the frame.  Left a nasty bruise on his shoulder.

It was interesting when my wifes broke, TC did not have a new walnut stock in stock.  They sent me a synthetic to use for the rest of hunting season and then sent me a walnut one to exchange for it after they got some more in stock.  They never questioned it being strange that it broke, just went out of their way to help me out, I would say they have seen more than their share of this problem.

with the limited responses I am guessing mahbe I am the exception. I sent my stick back with an explanation of what happened.  I guess I will give it another try when it arrives.  I was planning to sell out the encore stuff and move to another optima elite.

Go to the top of the page and type Cracked Encore Stocks in the search box.  You will find out that although no one has shown much interst in this post, that it has had much discussion in the past.

Well I see the search here works about as well as it always has.  I tried it yesterday before I made the post and got a bunch of matches.  I tried it today and got 0 matches.  Changed my search terms to encore cracked stock and got two pages of results with some of them about cracked stocks.

No matter what the responses are to this posts it has been a problem over the years.  Would I sell my Encore because of it?  No.

I just wish they would make a bantam stock in synthetic.  I am debating selling all my encore stuff but my frame and have a handgun in 308. It has been my go to gun for hunting and have a tough time hunting with a gun I am not sure will stay together.

If you aren't comfortable with factory wood for your Encore give Gunstocks Inc a call and discuss it with them.  They will make a stock to your specs and can perhaps help you with ideas to prevent the splitting.  Perhaps one of their laminate stocks would do the trick.  All I have had to do with their stocks is to finish them, and they are great.  Good folks to work with as well.
