2009 News?
« on: February 02, 2009, 04:19:59 PM »
I could not find if this has been covered.  Has there been any news on new offerings for 2009 (or elimination)s?  Anything new on display at the 2009 SHOT Shot?

There was nothing new at the show, but they're working on some more combos, bringing back a modernized version of the Hunstman/Sidekick, maybe a 17 Rem Fireball accessory barrel and a low profile hammer with a different hammer extension.

You'd think with all the votes the .35 Rem got in your poll it would be added. If it is not then they really do not care what you guys want they are gonna give you what they want you to have and expect you to like it.

The 35s are still up in the air, those were my suggestions to them to consider along with the 17 FB which was their idea.  ;)

With the transitions occuring due to the Remington purchase I can understand why there aren't that many big changes/additions.  Although the lower hammer profile would be a big improvement.

Still, I am a bit disappointed at the lack of new products.

Remington is investing time, money and resources in getting the new plant running good and improving what they already offer with better fit and finish, they'll get to the new stuff once they have the plant up to speed, I'm expecting an update on that any time.  ;)

I didn't have time to go myself but I had a friend go and ask questions for me. I live less than an hour from where they had the show. He covered all the bases. talked to the folks at remington, Marlin, and NEF just to see if anyone of them had any information the others didn't. All basically said the same thing... no news, no changes.

I've been gone for a week now, had to go to KY on an emergency load to cover needs for the ice storm they had up there. I know Sourdough was going to go has he checked back in yet? He might have asked more specific questions.

They should offer some nostalgic big bore cartridges...some of the small NE rounds and maybe 405 Winchester...375 H&H Flanged...anything else big with a rim!

It'd be nice if they brought back the 38-55 target with proper bore and chamber specs.
Even a good 22" barrel in 38-55 would be nice.

It would be nice if they gave a mechanical engineer 2 months and a manufacturing engineer 6 months to go back and re-engineer the design and change the production tooling and processes.
Then up rev the model number with interchangable barrels and all that factory fitting stuff would be history.
This would reduce their costs substantially.
I know a sucky design when I see one. Remington has the resources to fix this one. So hopefully the lull is a design clean up period.

My sentiments exactly, Ireland2,  How much money would it take to implement a properly designed system by utilizing modern manufacturing techniques and remove themselves from their early twentieth century thinking and distance themselves from their file and whittling  technology?    Willyjohn

Tim, "modernized" huntsman/sidekick?  Any details as to what exactly that means? (what they would change)
