Trigger for Marlin .17
« on: August 27, 2003, 02:01:10 PM »
I would like to lighten up the trigger pull on my Marlin .17vs.  I put a new trigger in another one I had and sold it and I was going to do it again to my new one and I thought I would ask for some recomendations on triggers and if I should look into just getting a trigger job.  And for all of you Jewel Trigger fans, I would love one but just can't bring myself to do it.   If a trigger job is possible, is it something that I can do myself?  I would appreciate the help.

I've can't recommend a trigger for the Marlin but would definitely recommend against doing a trigger job on these rifles.  It's possible but requires quite a bit of experience.  A mistep can lead to a dangerous situation..  The aftermarket trigger is the way to go..  While I love the perfection of the Jewel triggers I always hesitate to recommend them..  They are truly difficult to justify on a normal hunting rifle.  That and the light pull weights they are usually set at always make me wary..  It can be very dangerous to have a trigger set at too low a weight in a rifle used at low temps and in hunting situations...  and the finesse of the Jewel triggers is not needed if pull weight are kept at safe levels for hunting purposes..

For 15 minutes of time and a $1.00 pen you can do this yourself. Remove the barrel and reciever from the stock. Remove the trigger (1 screw) saving the spring. Polish the two sides of the trigger to remove machine marks.

Also polish to insides of the two trigger posts. Replace spring with Papermate or Pilot flexgrip spring.

Go to the Marlin Webpage Forums Rimfire and do a search on the subject. You will find pictures.
