Are we talking just the action or a whole rifle?

The 1909 is a military action made for Argentina by DWM of Germany.  It differs little more than any other 98 action in that it is made for the rimmed 7.65x53R cartridge.  In that light it might be useable as the basis for a rimmed magnum cartridge and these actions are sought out for their smooth handling.  However, it is still a military action and shows some pitting.  You might be able to get a couple of hundred dollars for it from the right person but I wouldn't hold my breath for that.  Possibly somewhere in the $100 - $150 range.  jmtcw.  Mikey.

I'm always looking for actions. Should you decide to sell, please let me know. I would like to see pictures if possible.

That I understand. If you should find a 1909 Guard assembly I could use one. I have an action that some fool milled the trigger guard off of so he could put on a shotgun trigger guard and a floorplate release lever.  I've been saving the action but can't find a correct guard assembly. I think it would make a really neat classic 7x57.

Those were made for the 7.65 Belgium or more commonly referred to as 7.65 Argentine Mausers and they are NOT rimmed cartridges, they are rimleess. And a fine round to boot. And they are more sought after because they have the hinged floorplate unlike any other military Mauser

Good VZ 24's are going for more than $150.  You did steal the 1909 at $150.  Congrats!  25-06 will fit on that action with zero mods -- very good choice.  Some tend to be on the soft side, so you might want to consider having it heat treated to avoid setback.

I've heard that some gunsmiths wont make them into mag calibers because some are too soft
but i've also heard others say that's all BS.  I know some were made in Germany by DWM and some were made in Argentina, not sure which ones are supposed to be soft but I'd guess it would more likely be the Argentina ones.  Anyone know?

It's is actually the German ones (DWM).  They are so wonderfully fitted and machined, but the case is thin on some.  The underlying steel is tough (Just try cutting off a bolt handle with a hacksaw, and you will certainly see "tough!"), but it tends to be a bit soft.  Reheat treating the action after machine work is completed can reassure the owner that the gun is much less likely to suffer setback (and increased headspace).  The Argentine is as good for a magnum cartridge as any Mauser, but the caution still applies.

Thanks, Clemson, I've always wondered about that.  I have 2 rifles with DWM actions, not 1909,  They were originally made in 7mm for some South American country.  I rebarreled them to .308 and .35 Whelen.  They are the smoothest M98s I've ever seen.
