E-Z Tip extractor for the Encore 209x50
« on: February 04, 2009, 02:02:33 PM »
I have a BP pistol barrel in 209x50 and haven't needed to clean it yet since I haven't shot it yet.  But as I look at the breech plug, I'm wondering how do you get the plug out when the extractor is in the way.
It seems to me you would want to pull the breech plug every time you clean it.  Can the extractor be easily removed?

Does anyone have experience with the  E-Z Tip extractor that is supposed to make cleaning much easier?  Is it worth buying and how tough is it to install?

Thanks for taking the time to help me out here.

I don't know why T/C doesn't include the ez-tip standard, but you really don't even need an extractor. You need to break the gun down to get at the screw that holds in the extractor which is simple, remove the forearm and push out the pin. I have the ez-tip on my encore rifle, but have never had a primer that didn't just fall out anyway.

I took the extractor out of my Encore ML barrel. I have no problems removing primers with my fingers.

I'm with you guys. I found the Encore extractor to be too much hassle. I removed it and have never had a problem. In fact, I find it more convenient without.

I replaced mine with the E-Z tip extractor and it makes it easy to remove the breach. Just swing it out of the way..I wish I could replace the Breach Plug to the newer ones that remove with a 1/4 turn.

I bought the E-Z tip extractor and eventually ended up just leaving it out.  No problem removing the primers with no extractor.

I have had extended range sessions where the breech plug got so dirty the primer wouldn't fall out. This was before I went from Pyrodex pellets to loose Triple 7. The E-Z Tip sure helped. I put it in five or six years ago and have never had a problem with it.

I can deal with the primer not falling out after extended sessions at the range, (although its never happened to me). Its just that take-down and cleaning are less of a hassle without it, and I can simply pluck out the primer with my fingernails.
