Having just about shot all my 30.06 reloads that I loaded 25 years ago. I started going back over my loadings of 150 grains and above trying to settle on one load.
I went back to a tried and true load that works in all rifles I have (7) in .30-06. It is IMR 4064 powder and 165 Spire Point bullets. I have loaded thousands upon thousands of .30-06 in a wide variety powders and bulletrs 150-180 grains. I like most went to the fastest loads I could getting hunting results (inside 1 1/2 inch to past muster). Most all would be 1 inch or close some under.
These loads of 4064 vary in weight 48.5 to 50 grains , depending on the rifle, using 165 Grain Nosler Partitions. All shoot under 1 inch all day every day in all the rifles.
Never have I had any problems with temperature extremes, I have hunted in 30 below to high 90 degrees with these loads and they are very consistant.
I have to laugh about all the experimintation I have done hours and hours of loading shooting measureing..I had a blast and learned alot about my guns but now I am back where I started a long time ago.
An old friend and mentor long since dead and gone told me "...put about 50 grains of IMR 4064 behind a 165 or 168 grain bullet tune the load to your gun and your will find nothing more accurate or stable, maybe faster but not any better in the hunters world..."
I now know he was right, its a load that works in any rifle that I fired it in.
Made a real big circle only to be back where I started.
