"Winchester Model 70 pre-64 were all long action." ?
« on: February 05, 2009, 11:47:42 AM »
Dear Guys,

If you go on the website for Ram-Line stocks, and look under their stock references for Winchester Model 70 rifles, their website states:  "Winchester Model 70 pre-64 were all long action."

Is this true?  Even for the .308 and .243 featherweight pre-64s?  (If so, did Winchester use a standard long action, and just put a spacer in the mag box to shorten it up for the .308 and .243 rounds.?)

  Thanks for all info.

As far as I know this is true.  WInchester used spacers to shorten the magazine box.  Kinda like my post '64 M70 300 WM.  It has a spacer as well and the bolt stop limits the travel of the bolt.  Remove the spacer and mill the stop a tad and you have a magnum length action.
