M&P advice

 I recently bough a compact M&P 9mm. The reson i bought it was because I got a real GOOD price on it. I was wondering what everybodys opinion was on the pistol. Likes/ Dislike?? And whats the story behind the M&P. I know its stand for Military and Police, but was it designed to meet certain military specs?

 I went to the local gun store, which has just about any make and model pistol out there. The guy working there told me the the M&P was their biggest sellers!

I have the full size M&P in .40 S&W,.45 acp,and .9mm.I have never had any problems with any of them.They all shoot well and have carried all three ccw with no problem,what-so-ever.You made a good choice IMHO.I like my M&P .40 better than my HK USP.Feels better in my hand and I can shoot it better;that's the most important thing to me.On another note;it cost less than the USP ::)....Rick

Maybe S&W just put Military and Police on the pistols to grab attention.

it was used on the mod. 10 before it was the mod. 10 if i remember . nothing more than ad hype .

I recently bought an M&P 40 compact as s self defence firearm.  For me it fit my hand very well and I can shoot it as well as a 1911.  The weight and size are perfect for me.  I have had all of the glock sub-compacts (9mm, 357 sig, 40 S&W, 10mm, 45 acp), Walther P99, H&K UPS, and a styer 40.  Of all the poly pistols I like the M&P the best.  The gun is very accurate and so far I have no dislikes about the pistol, a rare thing for me.

Now that I have the MP9, I no longer have any Glocks. Ergonimics are excellent for me.

I have the mp40 and the mp40c I wouldn't trade either of them for any polymer framed gun on the market I've had glocks xd's usp's, and the MP is handsdown far above the rest. One thing when finding out if people like the gun or not is if you see used ones in guns shops I've only seen one used mp9 no others. Plus another thing aboutt he mp that the other polymers don't have going for them is the mp has a stainless frame inside the grip frame. You made a great choice on buying the gun I doubt you'll regret it.

I don't see any military specs with the M&P, but I do see police specs. I say that because several of the police departments, here in Ohio, have already changed over to the M&P. Calibers vary from one city/department/township, but most departments are carrying the .40S&W.

I own a Smith & Wesson M&P in 9mm and it has impressed me, much more than I had anticipated. At 20 yards it will shoot 1" groups with Winchester (white box) 147gr. JHP ammo.

One of the guys at the gun shop where I purchased my M&P, told me that the service model would hit a standard clay bird, off-hand, at 50 yards. I've not tried it, yet, but intend to do so soon. I expect it to perform as they stated. This is another firearm purchase that I have NO regrets making. 8) Yes, I'd purchase anther one!

I recently purchased an M&P 45 Compact and I love it. I traded a Glock 30 for it and never looked back. I had a lot of problems with the Glock but no more; it's gone.  The M&P is as accurate as I expect from a service pistol. I mostly shoot 8 inch steel plates at 15-30 yards for practice and if I miss it isn't the gun's fault. 

I also handload and the M&P has a fully supported chamber unlike the Glock so the "Glock Kaboom" is no longer a concern.  Very happy with the purchase.  As an added bonus my Glock 30 holsters work fine with the M&P.

 The M&P has been in production since the late 1800s? And .38 caliber was the military's caliber of choice at this time. So, yes, it may very well have been meant to be a military and law enforcement designation.

  My understanding from a S&W article years ago was the Military & Police designation was a joint marketing effort to gain both military and police interest. Although the military found other options, police departments worldwide bought them by the millions. I think over 6 million have been produced if I heard right.
