Contender Locking Lugs
« on: February 06, 2009, 11:16:43 AM »
I was looking at purchasing an older 45/410 barrel that still has the 1 piece locking lug and was wondering where I could get the 2 piece lugs since I have a newer Contender Frame.  I had one switched out at the factory some years ago but would not be afraid of doing it myself if I could get the lugs.  Any help would be appreciated.

when you say "newer" do you mean newer G1 or G2? If a G1 just try it and see. Sometimes they work sometimes not. I may have a 2 pc set I will look when I get home.

Most of us got them with a phone call to TC

I bought my Contender about 15 years ago.  It is the easy open frame but before the G2 was ever introduced.  My father has a frame that was from the 70's that I could probably get my hands on if I really needed to try the barrel.  I had bought an older barrel before that had the single lug and when I fired it it would occasionally be forced open upon firing, not a good condition.  That was the barrel that I sent back to TC.

I have two barrels with one piece lug that work like a charm on my "easy open" frames, but have had many more that wouldn't, so you just never know 'til you try....odds aren't real good.  But as Keith said, a call to TC should fix the problem.  GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt

TC will probably send you new locking lugs and a new spring.  It's easy to switch them out, you just use a punch to drive the pin out (I think some barrels has a lock screw?)  Slide the new lugs into place and replace the pin...piece of cake.

Thanks for the info.  I will keep that in mind the next time I am looking for barrels.
