Buckhorn rear sight?

:shock:   With my old eyes, I still do the best with a square top post front and flat top rear sight just like on my pistols and the Rossi 92's.  Never could get the hang of getting that bead down into that little notch, took too long.  I have one of the AO rear sights on a .35 remington Marlin and love it.  Does anyone out there use a buckhorn like a big express peep sight and just center the bead in the big circle formed by the buckhorn rear?  Once the gun is sighted in this way (probably need a taller front sight) seems like this would be a super fast setup.    Just fishing.   44 Man

I've got 2 rifles with buckhorns and can't shoot either worth a darn! I've already modified one to the "square post and slot" type, now the groups ain't half bad. The other is an italian sharpes and I'm gonna end up doing the same to it. I tried gettin' used to it again just the other day and found that there was just too much room for error (at least with me anyway). If I hold the bead right at the notch, it shoots too low and isn't adjustabe. So I hold it somewhere in the middle and can never get the same shot off twice. It may be good for close range target aquisition, but I've got a different gun for that sort of work.  :wink:

I like the buckhorn and semi buckhorns.  But then I learned how to shoot on a rifle with aperature sights and shot ISU free rifle for quite a few  years, so I find it easy to center the front sight.  

Centering the bead works for me.

The reason that there are so many different types of sights out there is that folks have different preferences.  

Use what works best for you.

I have a Marlin 94 with a buckhorn rear sight that I use as a peep. I think it works great. I don't have to bottom the front sight in the rear just center and squeeze the trigger.
