What is your Favorite trap?
« on: February 06, 2009, 06:00:07 PM »
Just general.

Mine would have to be the Victor Pinch pan, mostly because i caught my first muskrat  and very first mink with the trap.
I wish i had pictures of it.

My 2nd would be the the Victor Stoploss round pan.

Mine is any trap that has my target in it. I don't have a favorite trap, I use many styles and brands of traps. Each one has its place on a multi-specie trap line. With that said, I really like the MB 12 16 body gripper. My other 330's work just fine but, it has such a wide opening that I think that I could swim through it.LOL Maybe not.

For my rat line--#1 stop loss.Somewhere along the line,I have used almost every type made. While I do like vics,I hate the need to flip the pan when pulling down the stop loss spring. That was a main factor when I worked On Dukes re design--that I went along the lines of the Blake and Lamb.
For beaver--330 all the way,the majority of my 330's are Dukes and Speies Specifics-- I do not own ,nor do I find a need for the super wide 330's. But thats a personal opinion.

While being like most others I have an assortment of traps in my bag of tricks. I would have to say that my Victor 1 1/2 DJs coils are probably my favorite. I use them mostly for dry land coon traps but have set them for fox and held a couple coyotes in them. I have used them for muskrats and mink on occasion and just find them to be very versatile for their size.

Over all my absolute favorite trap is the #1 1/2 longspring.  Mostly for nastalgia.

Like others I have favorite traps for specific species so if I have to choose one for each here they are:.

Rats - #1 stoploss (#1 1/2 ls is a close second)

Mink - #1 1/2 cs (duke)

Coon (water) - #1 1/2 cs (duke)

Coon (land) - #160 (duke)

Beaver - #330 victor conibear

Fox - #1 3/4 victor

ermine - #1 1/2 jump

These are my favorite with personal preference and bias factored in.

:) For K-9's its the MB 550 or BMI K-9 wolfer. Although I do have a boat load of victor and duke 1.75's and 2 coils that have been modified. I also have some #3 dls that I have on 2 prong drags and 6 feet of chain. For coon its the 1.5 coil. Brand doesn't matter as I modify all my traps the same. For beaver I use more snares than anything else, but really like the #5dls at castor mounds and blind sets on crawl outs. #1's, 11's and 1 1/2 ls, any brand as long as they are strong, round out my traps on rats and mink.
