What kind of scope to mount
« on: February 08, 2009, 05:00:47 AM »
Hi everyone!

I just bought a 15" .308 encore barrel from the classifieds http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/index.php/topic,164147.0.html from the classifieds here.

As the ad said it has the weaver base and weaver 4x4 rings mounted.

My question to you all is what kind of scope should I be looking for that won't break the bank.  At the same time can withstand the beating from a .308 cartridge.

I am looking for a fixed power, probably around 4x, if that helps at all

Thanks for the help!

The recoil from a braked 308 Win. handgun barrel isn't that bad.  If you're looking for a 4X scope, I would start shopping eBay or Gunbroker for a Leupold.  A Leupold is fine used because Leupold stands behind their warranty regardless of who was the original buyer.

i would still go with a bushnell 3200 handgun scope. it is a 2-6 but the extra magnification really helps when you are sighting in at 100 yards and the elite scopes do have a warranty with them. you can always turn it down to 4x to hunt with.

I wouldn't mind having a variable power scope, but at the same time I don't want to have a huge scope on the barrel either.
