My neighbor used to raise pidgons and there is always hawks around the neighborhood. He used to keep them down to a minimum with a 20 guage hidden in the coop. Now that he has passed away the pidgens are gone but not the hawks. One killed the neighbors rat terrier. I have a beautiful 2 year old chihuahua that plays in the back yard often . The other day there was a hawk flying over eyeing my dog. The next time I see it i hope it is on a weekday when the neighborhood is empty. OBAMONITES OR NOT DEAD HAWK!!!!!

I've never shot a hawk before but I can say that if I ever see one going after my ducks it better watch out.

a legal cut down pardner 12ga shooting 3 in win supreme #5 turkey load. I had to stop and move my arm cuz I thought I seriously hurt something in my shoulder, I think something might have crunched

My 1971 Remington 760 in 30-06 with a plastic butt plate - it will break your shoulder it don't have positioned just right!

My grandfather has a 760 in 30-06 that I refuse to shoot. He used to refuse to practice with it and when he started missing deer I tried to sight it in for him, but only made it 3 rounds before I gave up with a huge bruise on my shoulder. Something about that gun makes it hurt you bad! I would put 100 HOT handloads through my savage 100 30-06 before I would shoot 1 factory load in the 760. In fact I'd rather shoot 3.5's through my turkey gun then pull the trigger on that '06. I HATE that gun

Ditto on that! Knocks my dang cap off every time I shoot it and that's with one hand holding down the scope.
Finally shot enough factory rounds to reload the brass with my favorite 45/70 load ... much better.

Two guns that just about did me in: serbu super shorty (NFA 12 ga pistol) one shot of 00 buckshot from a nine inch 12 ga barrel.

second was a buddies home protection gun which was a pardner 10 ga with a 18.5inch barrel and loaded with buckshot 3.5inch shells holy crap my arm still hurts thinking about it

I think I would rather face the robber..........

Not bad on recoil but hard on the ears was a buddies M2 HB 50 cal gun with a 22 inch cut down barrel. you could not get near the front end of it, it actually made me sick to the stomach after 200 rounds from the blast....would have rather been infront of a flashbang gernade...

Its not a bullpump but it is a 50 cal. Reproduction arty piece chambered for 50 cal bmg. shes loud to say the least.....

I'm curious as to how far the end of a bullpup barrel is a way from your face...would the extra blast be worth the extra convenience, etc. Or maybe the blast is reduced since the barrel is longer...who knows!

With a good brake there is very little recoil on a 50. the last one I shot was a bolt gun and we were prone.
the blast the dust, small rocks and other FOD that came back was far worse than the recoil.
One of my friends is a gun smith and made a 50 BMG and had not added the stock yet. His 18 year old daughter stuch the short rifle with no stock on the bench and shot it. Recoil was similar to 44 mag she said.
I was not there and he was not willing to shoot it that way.

Ruger #3 with a steel but plate in 45-70 with 300 grain bullets. But in reality, it wasn't as bad as it sounds...but I was young and full of testosterone then.

looked for that gun for 15 years. traded it off after about six months

I have shot a 50 a couple time but the trigger was horrible. The last shot I pulled the trigger and the firing pin got stuck or something. I told the guy and he assumed I was another clueless teen...he touched the bolt and it nudged that firing pin to fire the shell. Scared the CRAP outta me and I told him no thanks to more if wasn't safer than that.

No I think the worse gun is a CVA eclipse muzzleloader with 100 grains of pyrodex and a 295 grain powerbelt. I think stock design is the problem because my handi doesn't kick like that and my friends 375 H&H weatherby mark v doesn't seem as bad. Guess its a mental thing too.

Years ago on another group someone asked what to reload his 45/70 with. One post said use 3031, with a strong action use lots of 3031 and if you've got a Ruger use lots and lots of 3031. For my Ruger #3 i loaded
10 rounds, still have 7 left if anyone is interested.

I loaded up some 525 grain cast for the 45-70 with 65 grains of BP and in a box of 20 rounds gave 12 rounds away

yeah the reproduction arty piece is a blast to shoot! esp at night! A buddy has a 75mm recoiless rifle that shoots 50 cal bmg ammo. Heres another fun one, buddies duel 1919a4s

A Westernfield copy of a Mossberg 500 in 12 ga. It was my Dad's gun when I was in high school. Every time I shot a squirrel with it I came away with a bloody nose. I think it had too much drop in the stock to be shooting up with. It was the worst because I always came away bloody.
Worst recoiling was a Ruger #1 in .458 win mag. The throat was so long we were loading .458 Lott charges and setting the bullets on top of the case by hand. It was my buddy's gun. He had a bad shoulder and my left hand was in a cast (lost a fight with a table saw)...never could keep ahold of the fore-end! 5 shots was my limit. Of course, I was shooting off the perfect Alaskan shooting bench...the hood of a Subaru car! There is just no way a 6-2 man can get into a proper recoil absorbing firing position shooting off the hood of a Subaru in 2 feet of snow.

When I was a kid, a buddy had a H&R 10ga single shot he would take duck hunting. No recoil pad, I think the screws were stripped out. Don't remember what load he was using, but it kicked the snot out of you. I'll never forget the huge black and blue mark on my shoulder after we shot a box of shells at tin cans, practicing. He sold it the next season and got a pump 12ga - smart kid...lol I have shot a lot of other heavy kickers, but with recoil pads, and proper fitting stocks that don't punch you in the jaw, and allow you to roll with the kick.
