I don't shoot a 45-70,  but from what others have harvested with the Factory Rem 405 grain, yes you will be able to harvest a large feral hog.  Good luck dude and let us know how the NEF shoots!

I have a long love affair going with the 45/70.  405 "collar buttons" as they are sometimes referred to as, are plenty hog medicine.   If you handload, choose a powder that burns clean in your gun.  If you have a single shot and want to use cast, consider the 500 Lyman round nose, cast from wheel weights...and blackpowder...they hit like wet mudballs... :D

I once used a Marlin Lever Action in 45/70 on a hog hunt.  I am not certain what ammo it was, but I think that it was factory loaded 300 grain Nosler Partitions.  It did some serious damage to the hog and fully penetrated on a quartering away shot at about 30 yards.

Can anyone confirm or deny if the 300 grain Nosler is loaded as factory ammo?  I thought it was Winchester but, like I said, I could be wrong.
