Consider the stock that Remington used for their Light Weight Stainless Fluted (LVSF) model rifle a few years ago.  It was a 700 with a blind magazine.  I love it because it has a rather flat forend.  They made a very few in short action deer calibers, but the cateloged models were varmints at 22-250 and down.  Same stock.  I think it is Bell and Carlson but not certain.  Rifles were well under seven pounds.

If I was looking for lightweight, I'd go with McMillan's HUNTERS EDGE ULTRALIGHT:

I have both Brown Precision and McMillan stocks.  The former on a Rem M700 and the latter on a Ruger M77UL.   If I do it again, it will be a McMillan.  I like the "feel" of the McMillan much better than that of the Brown Prec.  I know there a lot more out there but don't have personal experience with the others.

FWIW,

Paul

I've had a Brown Precision kevlar stock on a 700 long action ADL since 1980.  It weights 17 ozs.  The rifle, was a 7 mag now a 7STW with scope weights 6.5 lbs.  Back then they sold them unfinished for about $100.  The older I get the more I like that gun, it's killed a lot of Deer and a few Elk.  I'd vote for Brown Precision.
