Cast Bullets in 629 ported

I have just come to own an 629 classic ported, and I am considering getting into bullet casting.  I just wanted to know if anyone has had any problems shooting cast bullets in guns with porting.

Are the ports cut out of the top of the barrel or one slot cut on each side of the top centerline?

It is factory ported with one oblong port above an expantion chamber at the end of the barrel.

Given that I have no experience at all with ported barrels, I'll nonetheless venture an opinion. 

No problem.  If there were a problem, S&W would not have done it.  Must be at least half of all .44s are shot with cast bullets anyway.

Just keep the bore clean - that's not an easy thing.  You might want to take a close look at your bore before doing any shooting and think about hot-lapping it.  Maybe reaming the throats.  Somewhere below I wrote a long sad story about the nasty factory bore of a Model 21 .44 Special and all the trouble I had with leading, and how I fixed it.

All I shoot in my handguns are cast bullets. I have a S&W light hunter in 44 Mag with the ported barrel.  The only gun I know of an issue with, is the S&W 460 and 500 Mag's with the interchangeable compensator's. You just have to make sure you have the one for lead bullets in when shooting lead bullets.

I have a couple 629's that are the power port models. When using lead bullets I get a small amount of lead vapor build up on the front and forward sides of the front sight and any lead build up in the port seems to go away with a little shooting of jacketed ammo.
I don't get very OCD over lead in the port anyway but I try to keep the front sight reasonably clean.
Magnaporting leaves lead build up on the sides of the barrel quickly when using lead bullets and it doesn't clean up as easily.

The only revolver I've shot Lead in is my S&W 500 and didn't have any problems.

good hardcast will not be an issue if you clean after you shoot before the lead has time to get to hard. Also, use a gas check if you shoot loads over 1100FPS.
