wyo hunter,
First off,
WELCOME ABOARD! Second, let me tell you that I totally agree. I firmly beleive that hunters should only shoot at distances that they practice, give or take a certain percentage. For example, if a hunter goes to the range and shoots at 100 yards, then he/she shouldn't take shots past, say, 200 yards or so. If he shoots a target at 200 yards, then he/she shouldn't take a shot past, say, 250 or so. The problem is, that shooters practice at 100 yards, then rely on the ballistic tables from the ammo catalog, and think that they can shoot out to 500 yards. Well, assuming that the ballistics are indeed correct for your given rifle, shooting at 500 yards, or even 400 yards, or even 300 yards, is a lot different that shooting at 100 yards. In addition to holding a gun steady, there are just too many other variables to take into consideration when making such a shot.
