Was it ever determined if that was a wild or feral mountain loin that someone had illegally released

Thanks dave we now have proof that aflec is real, that cartoons should not have access to firearms, that vikings need better hygeine, that fat people are a drain on soceity and that chinese military has to many stupid soldiers.  Funny how a pic can show much more than a thousand word word of mouth story

Initially they said it had probably been released.  No word since.  The one DNR agent I've seen to ask, said he didn't know.

A land owner in pa recently shot a serval this is why I asked.  i mean the guy shot it.  it was attacking I believe his chickens or pigeons and according to the paper I read he called the PGC and they said to shot away.  So we have a single undesputable accurance of a serval shot in our state, but it would take an astronomical leap to claim a serval populatin in PA.  I know people with alligators or I guess truely camans not sure, but I know more than one that it got to big for them and it "died".  My point is a single animal pints to nothing more than irrisponsible pet owners.

I really can't believe that picture of the Asian holding the target is real. I do not think there is anyone on this Earth that stupid. Unless the guy behind the rifle was some kind of world champ. Even then you would not see me holding that target. Dale

I highly doubt that the pic was taken on a live fire range.  Look at the backround.  Unless its an urban combat training course.  either that or they finally have so many people they don't mind a few lost to stray bullets.

Lion looking out of the second floor window of that building?....and in the other window.....isn't that a former Pa. Game Commission Board member?? Man...those Mt. Lions and Pa. Game LEO's just seem to show up everywhere???)

I agree that is not a very good back stop but I count at least 2 holes maybe 3 holes in that target. :o Dale

OK, this is going to get me called a liar to but...

In the Spring of 1991, I was enrolled in an Outdoor Living Skills at Penn State main campus (hey, you had to take gym credits back then and this counted :P ).  As part of this class, we, as a class, had to go spend a weekend camping and orienteering.  Our instructor, Bob Ricketts, took us to the Stone Valley area to a camping spot he knew.  The entire class (~12-15 students) was walking in to the camping area following this old logging road when we came up on a mountain lion feeding.  It was unmistakable, its tail was straight up in the air while it fed.  We watched it for a few minutes before he took off once he saw/heard/smelled us.  It was probably 50-75 yards away when we saw it.

Once we walked up to the area where it had been feeding, we saw it was feeding on a 1/2 buried deer carcass.

There were a number of us present that saw it.  It was not a bobcat, it was not a lynx, it was not a house cat, it was a mountain lion.

Do mountain lions exist in PA?  Sure, why not?  Do they exist in large numbers?  No way, there would be more sightings, road kills, etc...

Look,

I'm not gonna call you a liar. However, I have a lot of friends who went to Penn State. In fact, my one and only Son went to Penn State. If you cut him....he will bleed blue! (Yeah...I'm not kidding)

But....knowing that my Son went there, and some of my friends went there, I am well aware of the amount of beer that gets consumed.

I am quite certain that what you saw was in fact a Nittay Lion!! A very rare cat! This cat leaves no prints (no....it does not fly) no scat, and doesn't pee. But.....it is normally seen at the end of parties....or the next day when,,,,,if a blood test is given, the individual would still be considered legally drunk.

Liar? Hardly. Penn State Graduate? Absolutely!!!

I've been hearing talk of a Big Cat near Keystone Power Dam in Armstrong county. I've talked to several local boys and I've been told one of them has pics from a trail cam. I'm trying to find out who he is. I've heard folks say they have seen it over a two year time period but until now, no one has had pictures of it.
Unlike some closed minded people I have encountered here, I'm keeping an open mind on this subject and I am trying to do a little research.
As for your small minded Big Foot remarks.
No one has proven that Big Foot exists.
Does anyone really doubt that there is such a creature as a mountian lion?
If you want to discuss things as adults, the only question is their range and how did they end up here again if they are here again.

We all know how stealthy a cat can be when it's hunting. Whether it's on camera in the Serengeti or a house cat stalking a mouse. They move slow and low when stalking and are lightning fast during the strike. They won't be a roadkill because the states that do have big cats aren't scraping up roadkills either. Cats can climb a tree in seconds and freeze in place when they want to be undetected so it's plain rediculous to think that with all the wilderness in Pennsylvania, there wouldn't be mountain lions present. They won't be seen unless both they and us are in the right place at the right time. If they can bring down a deer, unhealthy or not, they can bring down a man and it's the fool who thinks they're not out there.

Sorta like foxes, only more discreet.....one of my friends was building one of these drive through animal parks a few years ago, and hired someone to trap all the fox off the acreage. On a 400 acre spread, the trapper removed 64 fox.  As as he said it, "thats just the dumb foxes".

I have a feeling that if you see a mountain lion that has not been treed by hounds, it may be because you are prey......

Well, a lot of the state is or has been white, lots and lots and lots of hunters have been out and about, so let's get the pics posted of the tracks and kill sites you or your friends, or friends of friends, or you know a guy that knows a guy, have found.  Must be quite a few found by now.  Let's have a look at them!

Is it always guaranteed that you'll see them or find tracks? In a fresh snow, tracks are possible but put a crust on it and they're walking on top without going through. I have a neighbor with house cats that live outside and I can go weeks without seing one of them and they're 200 feet away. If they knew I were a threat, I'd never see them. I guess some of us expect to see signs in the forest that read, "Mountion Lion Lives Here".

A mountain lion CANNOT move in the snow without leaving tracks, they cannot kill deer without a LOT of VERY noticable sign, eating bloody chunks of meat a few times a day tends to stain the snow.  I start trapping this time of year and EVERY time I go out in the snow I find tracks of all sizes of animals, mice, voles, weasels, mink, muskrat, opposum, red fox, gray fox, coyote, bobcat, rabbit, turkey, crow, chicadees, grouse, red squirrel, gray squirrel, deer.

Come on now let's get the pics posted.  I know the muzzleloaders are out there, hare hunters have been out, and the coyote hound hunting is getting hot, we had snow back in rifle so I'm sure SOMEONE recorded tracks.  Several inches of fresh snow where I'm at.

I live in North Central PA. My daughter is in 4H and raises goats. When one of them died in late winter I asked another farmer what to do with the dead goat. He referred me to a land owner who lived 5 miles away. This guy has a Bengal Tiger as a pet, and uses the goats as feed. He has the tiger in a cage but he also has two mountain lions that live in his house, like house cats. This guy moved from NJ to Tioga county. I have no idea if he has permits for them or not. He would not let me near the house, and met me at the bottom of a long driveway to take the goat from me. I am sure, that if anyone has seen a loin in the state it is because of "pets" like these who have been turned loose or escaped. What will the rumors be if the tiger gets loose? Shotgunner

I don't think it is up to me to turn my neighbors in. As I said I don't know if he has permits or not, he could be perfectly legal. My point is that there are lots of people with exotic pets. There are 15 lb rats in the Florida Keys, African rats turned loose by dealers. There are anacondas in the everglades. I am sure, if there is a lion in PA, that it was brought there by an individual, not the state and certainly not a wild animal. Shotgunner

I remember when the coyote sightings around here were claimed to be feral dogs too. ::)

i grew up in Tioga County....spent more time in the woods than anywhere else.Lots of whitetail deer and small game, turkeys, and some black bear. Back then (early seventies) there was a story about a so called black panther that lived on "Tower Hill" in Lamb's Creek. Everybody had "heard" about it, but no pictures of it, or good pictures of tracks. AS much time as i spent in those woods both summer and winter it's hard to believe i wouldn't have at least found some clear tracks or footprints or something

By the way...the pic. I sent of the lion killed in Ga., was determined to be a wild animal, not a released one.  It also DNA tested to be a Florida panther, about 300 miles or so from home.  This made him an endangered animal, and made the man that shot him in possible trouble......

My name is Mtn Jack and if anybody could have killed a Mtn lion in Pa it would have been me.I have been hunting Pa like my ancestors since 1680. I do have a world record bear kill in Pa, and a daughter with the triple crown at 12 years old. Had to brag a little. I have lived and worked in the forest of Pa for the last 42 years. Haven't found a cat yet. Will post pictures when i get one. Have fun Mtn Jack

I once posted that a farmer near Sarver shot a mountain lion and was basically called a liar. Today a mountain lion was spotted, photographed and was reported on KDKA news. This was just a mile from the farm I mentioned. The Game commission is investigating. >:(

That was absolutely,positively a housecat.
