Best windshield wipers?

Have you found any brand of windshield wiper to be particularly good? I always buy decent quality but not expensive ones. I'm not very happy with them. Do the multiple-blade wipers work well enough to be worth it?

I just bought a set of rain-x ones and they work very well. Not the cheapest however. I have always had bad luck with cheap ones. The ones I had just before the rain-x were starting to fall apart after a short period of time.

The price is usually reasonable enough to buy the whole arm (not just a rubber insert) and I will usually get the Anco blades at a very good price (under $3.00) they will go a year, year & a half easily and I figure that this is reasonable.

None of them seem to last very well. 6-8 months and they are shot.

Friend in the part business really likes the multiple bladed ones. He said since they have been around he sells lots more wiper motors then before they came on the market.

Now this is a subject that I am really interested in.
I have not had a good set in many years.
From cheap to expensive, from single to multi, they all seem to work ok for a few months then they start to chatter across glass or start leaving streaks.

Try and find just the refills.
Most places don't even carry them anymore and the few that do say they cost almost as nuch buying the whole head.

The problem is two things.
1-No one makes them out of plane rubber anymore.
They are all man made materials.
2-There is a UV additive that most MFGs don't use because it drives up the cost.
This is the same additive that the tire MFGs leave out of the tires and that is why they dry rote and crack so fast.
Did you ever notice that the tires on old cars seemed to last for years and years with out cracking.
Now it is hard to get three or four years out of them.

If anyone knows of a brand that still is all tubber let me know as they are the only ones that will do a good job and last more than a year!

I have tried a few multi blade one and have found them to be not very good . This last set I put on are Anco and they are silicon and work very well so far about 4months worked well thru the winter here in IL. I treat the windshield with Rain X then use rain X additive in with the washer fluid .This may be the best combo I have found so far for my Ranger. They were a little pricey but seem to be worth it so far. Kurt

Agree big time with the Rain X. That stuff alone is like having a spare pair of working wipers.

Anco and rain x have worked the best for me also, Still don't last long.

Mechanic friends of mine also say to stay away from multi blade wipers as they will cause premature wiper motor wear especially on GM products.

buy the real expensive ones that come with a lifetime warranty you know the one that requires the original packaging and sales receipt to be returned with the wipers that failed and they'll send you new ones in a couple of months while you drive around without any wipers. Just get the cheapest things you can find and count on replaceing them in a year.When it is all said and done they wil;l be the least costly in the long run.

About 3 month's ago, replaced the wipers on my van,E150. Went into the local Advanced Auto store, checked out the Rain-X. Thought,wow, like $16-$17 for one blade. So, thought a minute, and it came to me. 95% of the time I'm driving by myself, why put that expensive of a blade on the passenger side, when nobody's there. So bought a store brand for that side. Around $4 or $5 I believe. If it's just rain, can't tell the difference between the 2. If it's a rain/ice mix, which we've had quite a bit so far this winter, the cheaper one works better. The Rain X commercial's always stated, when your looking out the windshield, it'll keep the center cleaner, the part your looking threw, wrong. Switched side's with the blade's. Go figure.  gypsyman
