Be careful when doing research on the internet----
« on: February 12, 2009, 08:52:03 AM »
I found a web site that had my grandmother Mary Jane Shaddix as the daughter of Greenberry and Susan(Cooley)Shaddix, who happens to be her grandparents not her parents.  She was the daughter of John James and Dorcas M(Thomas) Shaddix.
Greenberry and Susan had a daughter named Mary Jane born 1851, my grandmother was named after her.

So please be careful went doing research on the internet.

That is true.  You can't blindly accept the information you find.  Use it as clues and put all of the information together.

I have asked the person who posted the misinformation to please correct it but the last time I check it was the same.

I am thankful that we have a genealogy room at the Anniston/Calhoun County Library. It has helped me with alot of my research.

Whenever I give out information, I try to distinguish between what I consider safe info, (two original sources), assumed info, (one source), and very gray info based on word of mouth, etc.  Just to show you, my grandmother always told me about my gg grandfather and the date of his death.  He was buried in TX., and when I got someone to photo his grave for me, it did not agree with grandma.  Neither did an original newspaper obit from the area.  So grandma was wrong.  Who would ever question grandma?  The people who post many things may think they are so....but also be wrong.
