recrowning a chrome lined barrel
« on: August 29, 2003, 11:38:32 AM »
Sirs:  can a chrome lined (ar-15 to be exact) barrel be re-crowned?  how does one deal with the extra hard chrome in terms of lathe technique or tooling?  thanks for any assistance you may offer.  olduvai george

Shouldn't be a problem. I would be sure and make the finnish pass on the crown from the inside out. Less chance of "chipping or flaking" the chrome edge.   KN

re-crowning a barrel with chrome-plated bore

Use standard lathe technique to cut crown with VERY light cuts and slowest feed to minimize chance of flaking the chromium from the bore.

Use finest abrasive past on a Teflon block for finish.
