Question for Siskiyou
« on: February 13, 2009, 01:03:14 PM »
I wonder if you would relate your opinion of the Nuvi 260. Is it a discontinued unit? Your evaluation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you    Willyjohn

I compared the Nuvi 260 to the Nuvi 760.  The only feature that I like that is missing from the Nuvi 260 is the Bluetooth mode, which I like using with my cellphone.

I just checked the price of the Nuvi 260 at Tigergps.  It comes in at $149.99, which seems like a good deal.

The best price I could find was at Costco.com for $129.99 + shipping.

According to the Garmin.com it is not discontinued.

Considering the price drop, and it being pushed by tigergps, and Costco I suspect Garmin is reducing inventory and it will be discontinued shortly.  A year ago I purchased the about to be discontinued c550 at a discounted price and I am pleased with it.  At the above price range it is a good deal.  I could not find the Nuvi 260 offered at some other dealers, another sign that it is about ready to be discontinued.

The other day I was about 100 miles from home, playing driver for my wife, mother-in-law, and daughter.  I had a few hours of down time, and I type GUN in my unit, and business with GUN in it’s started popping up, starting with the closest and expand from there.  You can do with the Nuvi 260.

The map installed in the Nuvi 260 is a good one.  Note most automotive gps units are about one year behind new contruction.

A nice feature what mine shares with most Garmin automotive models is the ability to enter an address and information into the unit.  This morning I received an e-mail with a friends address, and phone number.  The friend has had major surgery, and I hope to make the trip to visit him.  I entered the information into my Street Pilot c550. I will be ready to go when he is seeing visitors.
