high scope mounts
« on: February 14, 2009, 02:05:57 AM »
I was wondering if i would need high scope mounts for a 204 heavy barrel with a 50 mm objective scope? If so any suggestions on with base and mounts would work well? My gun stock inc. stock has a raised cheek piece so i think i will be o.k. With the 50mm abj.also is there and place on here or any were to see how to properly fit the forearm on the barrel as far as how deep to sand the channel.

ive got the .204 pro hunter. it took quite a few rounds to break in. i use the Talley 1 peice high scope mount for a 50mm scope.

i just sent in to the unmentionable to get a muzzle break installed.

im having a hard time finding ammo too. the little i can find is almost $30 a box.

im restarting reloading just to get enough ammo to shoot.

I would like to see what a Pro Hunter barrel looks like with a break maybe you could post pictures when you recieve or e-mail me some.

as soon as i get it ill post some.
im having him lob 2" off the length, to 26". this is supposed to be the optimal bbl length for the .204.

That's what I want to see is how it looks cutting back to flutes and how brake looks against flutes. I've been thinking about MGM doing it to my 300 mag with there closeable brake so I'll be watching for pictures.
Sorry didn't mean to rob thread but I use Leupold DD high mounts on my VXIII 3.5X10X50 my other barrels have VXII 3X9X40 with Leupold DD medium mounts. Can't say there is a big difference in how I hold my cheek to butt stock.

I have a 300 WM Prohunter and I am thinking of cutting it back to 24" for deer hunting.  IT shoots MOA now, and I hope the accuracy will stay the same.  I really like the balance and handling of the shorter barrels.
