Have any of you put the '06 throught the chrono....
« on: December 17, 2002, 10:07:41 AM »
I have yet to chrono my 15" non-braked '06 just wondering if any of you guys have ? I'm using a 150gr Hornady with 58grs of IMR4350.I have been thinking of sending my '06 to SSK to have it rechambered to an '06jdj but, I'm not sure it would give me that much more velocity. My '06 is shooting real good now and I am scared to mess with it.

I get 2564 fps using Varget with a 150 grain SBT Sierra.  I get anywhere from .65 to .5 inch groups @ 100 yards. depending on the loose nut behind the trigger! HEHEHE!  The 06 is a wonderful cartridge. :D

How many grains of Varget are you using Arkansaa Wolverine ? My barrel did not like it to much but,it sure likes IMR4350.

PJ,
I use 50.5 grains.  However this is near maximum load and no one should start with this load.  I could use a different powder and get a little more velocity out of the 15 inch barrel but accuracy is more important.

You couldn't have said it better "ACCURACY IS EVERYTHING".My '06 gave me a hard time at first with accuracy but, then tried 58grs of IMR4350 and a 150gr Hornady,a trigger job, some trimming of the rubber forend my best group to date was 5@100=0.997
Got to love the '06 I can't wait to chrono it.

PJ, In one post you are thinking of a 30/06jdj rechamber. Then a later post you say you get "5 @ 100 = 0.997"". I suggest you go to bed tonight and get yourself a good nights sleep and tomorrow continue shooting your great 30/06.  Pat

HHI,
5@100 = .97" is:

Five shot group at 100 yards in .97 inches

OK, it's not great but it is a nice group for a short weapon.

Why not try to get more? (velocity, accuracy and EGO)

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.

PJ,

I've got to agree with HHI-7420.  You've come a long way with that weapon.  Nice job and nice shooting!

Blessings!

Thank you........and I'm going to leave it as an '06 not going to rechamber it to 30-06jdj just to start all over again.
