Sportster .22mag - opinions please
« on: February 14, 2009, 12:53:47 PM »
Looked at one today at Gun Show. Offered as new w/ open sights. Weight seemed heavier than 5 & 1/2 lbs as stated in H&R1871 site. Price was $165.00, also did not appear to have a factory rail with it. (forgot to ask about that). What do you think? He did offer to come down to $155.00. Going back tomorrow to look again.
Thanks,

That might not be a bad price. I was quoted $149 for a .17 HMR at Dick's Sporing Goods. I paid for it the week before Christmas but haven't got it yet. Still waiting. I think if I had one in my hands for that price I'd take it.

That's not too bad a price,  Bud's last price on the 22mag was $137 shipped, seems to me Walmart's price was $115 or so, same as the 22Lr, but that's been a while since I saw that.

Thanks for the help, on my way there in a couple of hours and I will look at it again. Don't own a .22mag so that is a good reason, Right?

I have a .22 Mag that is my favorite go to coyote gun for up to about 100 yards. Accurate and deadly to that distance. Mine was sent up with a Survivor stock and it was a great setup.
Unfortunately, I sold a Survivor buttstock to a member here, sent it USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation, it was scanned as delivered but he never got it. To make it right I took the Survivor buttstock off my coyote gun and sent that one to him also (since he never got the first one I sent). I sent the second one USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation AND insured. It was scanned as delivered but he never got it delivered until the next day.
Anyway, my .22 Mag Sportster with the Survivor stock was my favorite coyote gun and I am sure you will enjoy the .22 Mag if you get it. They are very accurate with the ammo they like best. Mine likes Winchester Silver and black box the best followed closely by CCI Maxi Mags. I will some day get another Survivor stock for my coyote gun when I see one here for what I think is a good price....<><...:)

I've had mine over a year and paid 125 or 130 for it used with a 6x scope on it.  It shoots most everything good enough at 100yd to use for anything the size of gophers on up.

I ordered one a couple of years ago thinking I was getting one with sights.  It came without them.  Now they are available again with sights???  Crazy!!!!

Now I'm contemplating another!! :o

Medford!! They are everywhere!! (a bit if info for those from "away", someone born in Medford pronounces it Meffod). I live on the Cape (Cape Cod) and this year there seems to be a down turn in coyote numbers but an upturn in Turkeys, rabbits, and squirrels. All for the good. Numbers of wild animals, like the temperature or anytrhing else in nature is cyclical, ups and downs with it all equaling out over the years. God did a great job with nature, it is we humans that screw it up....<><....:)

Wow, coyotes in Medford now. I thought it was funny seeing them in Lawrence. I read a story a while back about a wild turkey in Brookline of all places.

decent price..see if you can get him to "toss in" the rail. If he won't, $155 still fair enough...
