25 acp breech plug
« on: February 14, 2009, 04:37:17 PM »
I have been contemplating a 25 acp plug for the oe 50 caliber. Well I got to looking around today on precision rifle and the places that sell cecil's products here.  None of them list the one for cva/winchester any longer.   About 4 months ago they had them still listed.  So, I emailed Cecil to ask him about this.  He did not say they had discontinued them, but did say if I send my breech plug with a fired 209, he will machine my current plug to accept the 25 acp.  The charge is 35 dollars.  So I fired off a primer and will send it out tuesday.  I am thinking there was not much of a market for the 25 in these guns.

Why? Gun works great without it.

What other options? Not trying to be a smart A$$ either,
I just see no value whatsoever in this conversion.

options of small rifle or small pistol primer ignition.  It is much cheaper to buy 100 primers than it is 100 209 primers especially the ones designed for muzzleloaders. It has made my rifle much more accurate with the 25 acp and small rifle primers as it uses less power to very effectively ignite the powder. I still have the option of going back to 209 since I now have both breech plugs.  If you tried it once, you would like it.

I doubt blackhorn will make my gun any more accurate than it shoots now.

Then why do you need the plug?

it is the plug that tightened up the group same load exactly.  Different plug less blast to the powder and poof it is very accurate.

Yes, I am aware of the plug & have talked to Cecil a time or 2. My question was if you did not feel that Blackhorn would help accuracy, how would you know that & how would you be absolutely sure that Blackhorn would not help, but be sure the plug would?

But it doesn't matter, if you want to try the plug but not try Blackhorn, then by all means just get the plug.

I already have the plug cecil made for me and I am saying it made all the difference already.  When it will make one big hole at 75 yards I dont see how a different powder will make it any better than that.  My first post was in february and is old news now.
