PT145 Magazine question
« on: February 15, 2009, 06:05:33 AM »
Hello all!   Just found this site in my search for a longer magazine.  What I have is a PT145 (To which I love), but what is troubling me is the length of the mag.  I really like the gun, it shoots great, but the grip is a bit short for my hand, thus not giving me the "feel" I like when shooting.  I have been searching for a hi-cap magazine, or similar but have come up empty handed.  I believe I have a hi-cap mag already as the only one's I've found are the 10 rd. one's.  If I could find a mag that's about an 1in longer I'd be in Taurus heaven. Has anybody heard/know of such a mag, or where I can locate one? Many thanks.

 Steve

Para Ordnance magazines will fit the 24/7 OSS models and from looking at the upper on your PT145 magazine it looks like maybe it will fit.  You might try a P12, P13, P14 or P15 mag.

Greetings all! New 24/7 Pro .45 owner here. For those seeking magazines, I have a piece of excellent news. After doing some hands-on research, I have found that Para-Ordinance P14-45 magazines are a perfect fit in the 24/7 .45. The angles of the feed lips, mag width and depth, etc, are virtually identical. The Para mags hold 14 rds (vs the stock 12rd Taurus mags), and as a result do stick out about 3/4" longer at the back side of the grip, and about 1.25" longer at the front of the grip.
As far as price -- I purchased Pro-Mag magazines for $29.95 each, rather than factory Para-Ordinance mags, primarily because they were readily available and I wanted some spare mags immediately, but also because I suspect that Para-branded mags will be more expensive. Thus far I have had no problems with the Pro-Mag magazines (or the stock Taurus mags for that matter). I did find that when loading them the first few times that it was a real bear of a job to stuff the 14th round in. I had to press down on the top round in the mag with a wooden dowel rod, near the case rim, in order to compress the spring sufficiently to fit the 14th round in. I have not experienced any problems with feeding when the magazines are fully loaded with 14 rounds. Both Taurus and Pro-Mag magazines seat equally well, albeit requiring a good smack on the baseplate when inserting.

For those seeking magazines that do not extend beyond the grip, look into the Para-Ordinance P10 mags, which appear to be identical in length. I believe they will work. The baseplate angle is, like the 14-rounders, less sharp, so it shouldn't cause problems with P10 mags locking into place correctly.

In any event, with two 12-round mags and two 14 round mags and a round in the chamber, I now have 53 rounds on my belt, which is a much improved feeling from my last carry gun where I maxed out at 26 rounds with 4 mags.

Well, how did it work? Will the 24/7 mags work?

In light of this discussion:  Local shop had a PT145 and some Para (brand, I think) P14 mags on the rack. They let me try them for fit; obviously not for firing function.  The base plate of the Para mag has a locking tab that extends out the rear, and prevents the mag from seating all the way in the mag well of the PT145.  If, however, you removed the tab or just slid the base plate forward (like I did), the magazine seats fine and functions to lock the slide back.  As shown in the pics above, the follower looks the same, and the only difference appears to be the shape of the cutout on the back face of the magazine body.

FWIW.
