I got more compliments on my RB 54 looks than all my other rifles combined. It shoots straight & it shoots well, but I'll never buy that rifle again.
It may be the world's hardest muzzleloader to clean "properly". If you want to take shortcuts cleaning it, you need an imaginative mind to uncover where the toothbrush, Q-tips, pipe cleaners & thrust spray has to go. That gun needs a complete trigger assembly tear-down every 2nd time to the range or corrosion may occur in the primer/#11 hollow door cavity where it's held in by hinge pins.
That plunger-pin in the door will freeze or break if your dog is as stupid as mine... causing the standing gun to fall over a few seconds after cleaning it. I took it to Cabelas to get fixed because the part# in the booklet was confusing -- it did not give me the option of buying a one-piece replacement.
When I entered Cabelas with my booklet & rifle, the gun department manager looked at my gun & offered me the complete 100% price I paid for it 8 years and 700 shots ago. I always keep my store receipt in my booklets/manuals so I handed it to him. He gave me a store credit for $289.... I walked over to the rifles & bought the T/C Omega. All the way home, I had this big grin on my face because both parties were extremely happy. The manager got his "collector's item"... I got a much easier & more modern "brand new" same-style inline with a more reputable name.
