Was Abraham Lincoln Gay?
« on: February 16, 2009, 09:07:12 AM »
I listened to a talk show the other day, were the researcher interviewed, quoted compelling evidence to the probability of Lincoln liking boys. Especially soldiers. Any thoughts here backed up by evidence of data? Or is anyone even interested in such a topic?

I was watching a documentary about Lincoln on the History channel recently and they discussed the possibility. While Lincoln was on the road, he often invited some of his soldiers to sleep in the same bed with him.

However, the narrator also pointed out that many people sleeping in the same bed was a common occurrence back in those days. Rather than having sex on their minds, it was more likely that they were thinking about the pure, unadulterated, idea of the comfort that comes from sleeping in a real bed rather than on the ground or in a tent.

Warmth was also an issue and this too was discussed in the interview, but there are letters also on the matter to MEN, written by the so called liberator himself. I will not convict him as I was not there, but it appears the skinny scoundrel had more than one dark side, other than pillaging, sacking and burning the South to the ground.
Just thought I would throw that out there.

Yeah, that's right, I had forgotten about that. He did get a little fuzzy and feely in some of those letters.

Well look at pictures of some of the Generals in the war of northern agg. They look somewhat "gay" . Some it is reported wore womans perfume .
Guess they had a "gay" old time ?
It seems alot of Govt. offices have "gay " ie; Congress , FBI , who knows what else .
See what one can get away with when they don't have Fox news , Talk Radio , National news papers .
The whole mess is sick !

At this late date who really cares? Not I as I find plenty of other things to dislike him for without having to wonder about whether he was gay.

Isn't that what they said about Jackson? That's Michael Jackson.

Thanks Dee,
Just one more nail in the coffin of a man that no one really knows. I must say after reading from that Blog there is alot there I don't care for such as "The greatest President we ever had" and "The protector and upholder of the Constitution" these people really don't know much of anything about the Constitution let alone what constitutes Greatness in a President!

So you're pretty sure now that Abe was gay, based on a few reviews of Tripp's book? That's pretty funny. Pure speculation if you ask me.

Hm mm, did I say he was gay? Don't think so. What I said was no one really knows this guy. As you say pure speculation but speculation is that nail and as many here have told me "perception is everything!"

You do remember "I did NOT have sex with that woman!", right? Also I'm sure you remember Barbara Bush's answer to that statement.

I see that the majority of posters on this thread have no real interest in civil war history and its actors. I believe it may prove to be a mistake to leave the thread open. If you see fit, lock it with no hard feelings. I doubt there will be any real research on the subject.  ;)

Gay had a different meaning back in those days.ex. "I was happy and oh so gay" didn't mean what it means now.

Ok, perhaps I should have said: Was Abraham Lincoln Queer? Would that have changed the direction of the discussion going on here now?
Your bit of history of the English language THEN vs NOW, doesn't seem to make any sort of point. Assuming that most here have a generally good grasp of the English language THEN vs NOW, I will ask: What is your point?

Dee , I have never held him in high regard . I think he was one of the worst presidents we have ever had .
If a point has to be made yes he was odd . That should be a given as he went agaist the law of the land setting a model others have tried to follow since . The thing is we are trying to repete history it seems ?
Will the voters ever learn ?

IMHO he was both; for anyone to think that the use of the word Gay in any other connotation than yours need only to look at his face and see that there wasn't anyother kind of gay there cause he was ugggggggggggggggly. ;D :o
