Chronographing some loads
« on: February 16, 2009, 12:26:03 PM »
I finally got the time to run some rounds over the chrony. I started with a cylinder of factory winchester .44 mag loads. It was a 240 grain JSP.. It is no wonder these hurt to shoot. They were at 1327 fps average and 1345 high. I then ran some of my loads with 240 Gr GDHP and 9.3 GR. Of Unique. They averaged 1038 with a high of 1064 and were much easer on the shooter but still a hand full.
My plinking load with a  240 gr LSWC of wheel weights, with 5.4 gr. Of Unique at and average velocity of 718 and a max of 740 were much more fun to shoot.
You have got to love pain to shoot those factory loads. Then again old age may have some thing to do with it.

Its nice to know exactly what the loads do in you gun!!

I find my chrony an invaluable tool in my reloading arsenal.
