« on: February 17, 2009, 01:46:23 PM »
hi there, i have a 1-9 223 handi . i have some 30gr berger bullets and was wondering if anyone had used these to make some hornet type loads. the only powder i have is h335 AND 3031. any input on this would be very helpful. thanks.

Neither of the powders you list are really appropriate for Hornet-level reduced loads.  H335 does not like low pressure and loaded that way may give wild velocity swings and large muzzle flashes.  IMR3031 is better but not the best.  Frankly the "best" powder is probably BlueDot, I use it in my .223s with 40-grain bullets.  But since it is not pressure tested data I won't list it here.  You can find BD/.223 data on other sites.

Go to calhoons website he has loads for the .223 down to .22 mag velocities useing bluedot and 700x I think it was. I know they work well with the 40gr LGCRN bullets I cast fun to shoot. 8)

today i loaded up 5 rounds with these little bullets and 23.6 gr of 3031. they seemed fairly accurate. i can`t check the speed on them , but they where smokin along purty fast. the one thing i didn`t like is the barrel gets dirty real fast. would a stiffer load help with this? thanks.
