Don't just write down a list. Number them 1 being the best, 10 being 10th best and describe why you think they belong in the top 10...
Here is mine
Top 10 firearms of all time
By: Singleshotsam
#10 – The Kentucky Rifle.
Not much could be said for the firearms before the 1750’s. You put powder in them, some shot, lit it off it went bang and the lead went somewhere out the end of the barrel. Then around 1740’s a bunch of German immigrants came to the new world, mingled with some other immigrants and figured out, “Hey! If we put a bunch of spirals down this barrel, and make the lead ball fit tighter you can actually hit stuff!” Thus the Kentucky rifle evolved into existence. It could be made completely by hand in the wilderness, was much more effective in killing game and Indians, and the guy carrying one just looked like a badass! This rifle bred good marksmanship. Thus earning its place in my top 10 list.
# 9- The Colt Revolving Pistol
It’s said that God made all men, but Samuel Colt made them equal. Well I’m not sure how true that is but he did make a stupendous revolver. So much so that the initial design has been around and in use for generations! Numerous calibers, barrel lengths, a rugged design and handsome looks made this the go to pistol design for the ages. Plus it makes modern day people once again look like cowboys!
# 8 - The Henry Repeating Rifle.
Well, here it is. The first practical lever action-repeating rifle. It got picked over the Spencer carbine because, well, it’s just easier to operate. A high rate of fire, good looks, decent accuracy and tremendous magazine capacity. The rifle you can load on Sunday and shoot all week long. It was the basis of the infamous Winchester repeater and technically won the west. Used by cowboy and Indian alike. This rifle definitely deserves a spot in the top 10!
# 7 - M2 .50 caliber machine gun
Well of course it’s on my all time list! It will mount on a jeep, the ground, on a train, on a plane, in a box or on a fox(hole). It will shoot through as many people as you want to line up, armor, engine blocks, trees, walls (did I mention people?).
It makes a loud bang, which make communist and liberals pee themselves. The cartridge is the basis for many modern sniper rifles and is still in service today. Why wouldn’t it be in the top 10?
# 6 - Colt 1911 auto loading pistol
On March 3rd 1911, the US military ordinance torture tested a series of pistols based on a .45 caliber cartridge. The test consisted of having each gunfire 6000 rounds. One hundred shots would be fired and the pistol would be allowed to cool for 5 minutes. After every 1000 rounds, the pistol would be cleaned and oiled. After firing those 6000 rounds, the pistol would be tested with deformed cartridges, some seated too deeply, some not seated enough, etc. The gun would then be rusted in acid or submerged in sand and mud and some more tests would then be conducted. John Browning’s 1911 pistol passed the test and set the bar. Since then it hasn’t stopped. There are more parts available for upgrades and replacement than you can shake a stick at and the military is even thinking about going back to the .45 to replace the 9mm that replaced it. It has scores of fans, and is the bane of those that wish its owners harm. Truly a go to gun.
# 5 - The Winchester Model 1897
Any gun by which the German High Command tries to outlaw on the basis that it is “inhumane” is a gun I want! An adapted version of John Browning’s earlier design the 1897 Winchester pump was the best early example of a pump action ever designed. The thicker receiver allowed the use of smokeless shells, and the ability to “take down” the barrel made this one of the premier go-to guns for many Americans. Military men adored it in the trenches during WW1 and it’s adoration continued for many years in the development of tactics and hunting using shotguns.
# 4 - The Mauser Model 1871
Look in your gun cabinet. Do you own a bolt action? Chances are it’s an adapted version of the original Mauser design. The basis of some of the greatest hunting rifles in history, the Mauser action has truly been time tested and shooter approved. So much so that they are the go to style for many dangerous game hunters. They are so reliable that it borders stupidity and are strong enough to chamber some of the largest, loudest, most self - abusing cartridges ever known to man.
#3 - AK 47
Ok guys, whether you like it or not, a kid can operate it, and in Africa you can buy trade a chicken for one. It’s deadly and retardedly simple (yes I’m inventing words) to operate. Not really accurate, but it sprays out so much lead that you wouldn’t want to stand in front of it. I’m tired of seeing it as the #1 so I’m going to make it #3.
#2 - AR 15
Once again, like it or not, it’s the most mass produced US military rifle ever. Its accurate, deadly, lightweight and after the US ordinance got their heads out of their asses and set up the ammo the way Stoner designed it, (and issued cleaning kits), its been the #1 weapon for the US Army for going on 50 years. You can take it apart in seconds, and switch to a completely different caliber or setup. Easy to clean and maintain. Plus it’s cool to own one.
#1 - M1 Garand
Simply put by Gen. George S Patton. "The greatest battle implement ever devised." That’s why it’s #1.
There you go... Tear me apart
