removing metal finish
« on: February 18, 2009, 10:30:51 AM »
I have an old trapdoor that has been plated on the side plate and butt plate with a chrome or nickel finish, Iam not sure which. Is there a stripper on the market that will take this off? It just doesent look right and doesen't do anything for the value. :-\

If it is nickel any copper removing solvent will take it off. Soak rag strips with the solvent & wrap around the metal for a few hours. Then steel wool w/ #0000 & vinegar.

Thanx for the tip. I've got some sweets around here somewhere I'll try. If that doesn't do it, I'll figure its chrome and hope I come across something, maybe Brownells has something. :-\

I have not used this stuff myself, but I like Brownell's Tech support if I need it:

Good luck!
