Was the site down for hours last night or was I just having a problem on my end? I noticed the last post on this forum was at 08:11:17 PM last night and then the first post today was at 04:55:55 AM. Dale

I think it was down Dale. Same thing happened to me. And then the newest post was around 3:30 AM Central this morning. Must have been a small problem. And I'm so happy it's back up again.

Yup Matt messed up big time. He has been fighting hack attacks for some time now. He had added some new program he hoped would help but decided it wasn't getting the job done so he purchased some new improved software that is supposed to be the best out there to keep hackers out. When he installed it the program required all the other software we used be updated to the latest versions first.

He used some sorta program to do that which required a restart or reboot. He had however failed to reboot after installing the first program that didn't work and somehow the reboot when he did it shut the server down so that it could not be restarted from here. It had to be done at the server which is in Dallas.

When I went to bed last night about 11:30 he was not sure if the folks who have our servers co-located with theirs would/could fix it or if he was going to have to fly to Dallas and do it himself. I've not spoken with him today but apparently the did get it fixed around 4:00 or so this morning. We were fully expecting this to be a VERY COSTLY error and for sure would have been had he had to fly to Dallas. How much it cost for them to fix it without the plane trip I dunno yet.

It seems to still be having problems as it's been up and down several times this morning for me.

Just a quess but I would think some left wing nut job hacked the site because of all the anti Obama stuff they see here. Or it was the Feds taking liberty with a covert internet version of the "fairness doctrine".

Glad to see it's back up. I was getting diverted to Google search when trying to get to site. Bill, you have no idea how boring my night was without you. I actually had to "talk" with the girlfriend..... $:-\$ Please don't leave me like that again.....

The site was down for everybody until about 5 this morning. It was down for a lot of people including me until just NOW. I know this seems strange but Matt could get on on his computer, but I couldn't on mine or the kids computer. I don't understand this weird cyberstuff, but I am happy to be back to GBO.

I just got back on after several tries all day and last evening. I thought the armageddon was taking place and it was over. I am so glad it is back up. Good work guys.

Yeah... I screwed up big time... I did a " yum update " which updated all packages on the server and added a bunch that I did not want or need. after getting rid of the crap I found that bind-chroot was installed and causeing much problems as it is not compatable with the Plesk control panel we run.

I can not take all the credit for this as GregP and I spent several hours on the phone working on it and without him I would still be looking for the problem as he was able to get me looking in the right place for the problem.

This has been a major ordeal and I was scared shitless as I thought it was gone... or at least dead till I could go to Dallas and fix it.

I still have got to get the Atomic Secured Linux Kernel working but not for a few days....I need a break...

Oh I know spellcheck is gone and I will fix it...

Yea after I told him what was up he understood, but while we were talking on the phone I kept shooing him away. I think the poor guy about starved before we were done!
