Hey Bog, ever have this happen.

Tom, I boughy a dozen species specific 330s at the MTA convention.  Yesterday I set the springs and dyed them.  When I went outside this morning 5 of the traps had busted springs.  One even had both of them broken.

I know that you are a big fan of this brand and I have used them in the past as well.  Just wondering if you have seen this before.  I am almost afraid to replace the broken ones with the same brand.

Steven,I have never had the springs break on any of my species 330s.
Some of the first ones made used a differant process on the springs-and some of those broke when set in cold northern waters. The process was then changed, after that spring breakage was not a problem.I have handled species specifics for 4 or 5 years ,one customer had a couple springs break on the smaller traps, but that has been it as far as problems.A few years ago BMI also had the same problem, they too made some changes.
I would suggest you contact the supply dealer that you bought them from.
I use my Species Specifics with confidence, the same ones I started with 5 years ago ,are still in the field taking beaver.  Tom

This is getting frustrating.  I am up to seven out of the dozen with broken springs.  Of those seven, for have both of them broke now.  This is truly odd.

Tom, I have had some 12 x 10's for at least four seasons and not one bit of problems with them.  I am just trying to figure this problem out.  The only thing I did to these traps was to degrease them.  I did this by boiling in lye to rid of the grease and to start the rusting.  I have done this to hundreds of traps before without any ill effects.  Would like to know your thoughts on this, if this could of been the cause.

Steve,I have never degreased in lye. I just use hot water and soap or a degreaser. Other times I lay new traps in the laundry tub, every time my wife does laundry ,the traps get a hot soapy bath and a rinse.
Steve, send me a private message with who you got them from.My guess is they were some of the very first ones produced. As I said before,I have never encountered 330 breakage on those made after the first batches.  Tom
