Bill Status of HB0687
« on: February 20, 2009, 08:02:41 PM »
You folks in Illinois just get bombs dropped on you left and right. This one sure looks like another big fat farce at the hands of the government. I read about the Bill on another forum and thought I'd post something about it here.

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/fulltext.asp?DocName=&SessionId=76&GA=96&DocTypeId=HB&DocNum=687&GAID=10&LegID=41158&SpecSess=&Session=

Synopsis As Introduced

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Provides that any person who owns a firearm in this State shall maintain a policy of liability insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person. Provides that a person shall be deemed the owner of a firearm after the firearm is lost or stolen until such loss or theft is reported to the police department or sheriff of the jurisdiction in which the owner resides. Provides that the Department of State Police shall revoke and seize a Firearm Owner's Identification Card previously issued under this Act if the Department finds that the person to whom such card was issued possesses or acquires a firearm and does not submit evidence to the Department of State Police that he or she has been issued in his or her name a liability insurance policy in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person. Effective January 1, 2010.

It's been sent to the rules committee...

Yeah, that's the way I read it too, Jim. Not passed, but being carefully looked at by those dedicated servants whose only concern is our safety, betterment, and who overall know what's best for us. ::) I wish there was someone I could call to give my opinion, but I heard that the Illinois reps will no longer take calls from anyone except folks from Illinois (not sure if that's true though).

I don't think they really care to hear from those of us in Illinois anymore either.

The FOID unit is just one dept of many in the IL State Police dept. I have it from a good sorce that the IL State Police is working for us and will reject this bill in legislation as being an (undue burden) basically to us.
Foid is a cash cow and also recieves federal monies. When money talks, people usually listen and the level heads often prevail. At any rate, it is good to have this department working for us.

Isra confirmed this bill is going nowhere.

I'm glad to see a gov dept with common sense. I hope they stay on our side.

I don't think they really care to hear from those of us in Illinois anymore either.

Try and contact Durbin, a while back he'd change his email address every couple of days to prevent pro gun people from being able to give their opinion? This is after he blamed us(SUVs) for the $3.50@gallon of gas while he was driven in a stretch limo to every democratic party function.
