Ruger 77/22VHZ
« on: February 21, 2009, 03:34:43 AM »
I have a M77/22VHZ hornet, and was thinking of sending it to Connecticut Precision Chambering to have the barrel set back, rechambered, and recrowned. Has anyone here ever had work done by this company on thier hornet? If so what were the results? The rifle will shoot fairly well with some bullets, but I would like to have it shoot better.

I have a 77/22 hornet, but I haven't had any work done to it.  So far I think it shoots well enough, especially since I started reloading 22 hornet.  If I do any work to the rifle, Ill probably start with the basics by taking the stock off and working the barrel channel a bit to free float the barrel, and getting a drop-in trigger group.

Hope you have good luck finding a load that shoots well. If you are getting 1 inch groups, fire forming brass, I expect your gun will shoot well. I'm still undecided weather to keep it a regular hornet or have it rechambered to K hornet. What was the turn around time, on haveing the work done to your rifle?

I had CPC install a tighter pin in my 77/22 Hornet's bolt.  It alone improved my groups drastically.  They do great work and Randy was a pleasure to talk to.  He shared alot of his knowledge and was very friendly.

Thanks, Dinny

I bought a 77/22 hornet all weather a couple of weeks ago. First time out it shot .816 with factory winchester 46gr. hollow points. I just bedded the action and free floated the barrel and shimmed the bolt .005 thousands, cant wait to see what it will do now. I have to buy some lil gun powder , small pistol primers and a neck sizer die now. I think I am going to like this one !
