Model 7 7mm saum

Have a chance to buy a model 7 in 7mm saum for $400 but was discouraged when there wasn't even a box or a price in the 7mm ammo section.  I was reassured that I could order all I wanted, but will anybody else have factory ammo for the 7mm rsaum?  Hard justifying buying a gun that factory ammo has already passed.

No not likely. For a few more years you'll be able to get your hands on some brass or some you can use to reform to it but factory ammo is already hard to come by. If you're not a reloader stay far far away from those now discontinued rounds.

Two reasons NOT to buy.

1. Like GB said, no ammo
2. That is alot of gun for a model 7

I have a model 7 in 300 saum  .  Thats a lotta gun  .
I slipped that 7mm saum into the gun cabinet today and nice new monarch 
The crazy thing is I traded my 444ss w/bushnell 3x9 and $70.  I think I made out pretty good 
Now the quest begins to find components to reload another obsolete caliber. Brass should be my only concern right? Will a 100 be enough for the life of the gun?

Rechamber to 7mm WSM if brass is unavailable? or relace barrel to 308 Win to be sure.

I don't think the boltface would allow to rebarrel to 308. I would buy 500 pieces of brass. I don't know what the barrel life is but 500 pieces will for shure get you there. If you done have a 300 your gun loony enough that rechambering or rebarreling at some point wouldn't hurt your feelers to bad. Right -grin-? I don't think you would even need 500 pieces really.

Time will tell.  You may have made a great purchase.  After the cartridge is dead, it might get reborn and have a cult of its own.  You bought at a good price.

Now you need a mountain goat permit.

I really wanted the 7mm-08 but paying $200 more for the same gun was not going to happen.
I have 200 rounds of brass comming, and I found four boxes of rem. premier 160's for $26.97 each.
Went to the gun shop today and the same rem. premier ammo was $49.97 
thats when I ordered the brass.  Guess when the bank builds back up I'll have to order some more.

Oh I agree but he should have spend the extra $200 for the 7-08 that was my point. He bought the SAUM to save money and yet has now spent more because he got it rather than the 7-08 than it would have cost extra over the SAUM.

But looking at it another way he still doesn't have a 7-08 so now he has to get one.

Probably would have ended up reloading for the 7-08 too, but I was more focused on the $ difference between the two guns at the time not the big picture of which would be cheaper to shoot.  Really did like the feel of the light barrel on the 7-08 but I was locked on to that saum for unknown reasons.
Like you said there's not a 7-08 in my collection yet, but there is still room.
