For rifle, I prefer the Bonanza CoAx but use a Rock Chucker II; there's not enough difference between them to make me change.  For pistol, I prefer a Dillon but use an old Lyman Spar-T.  I love my two dedicated Lee "Reloader" presses (one each for decapping and recapping with a Lee AutoPrime 2).  And I'm well satisfied with my Lee Handheld press for loading at the range.

So, given that we may prefer one while actually using another, what????   :D

Wellll, so far, we've proven that 77% prefer RCBS and Lee, the rest of us are split up pretty far back.  ????   Maybe including Redding and Forster/Bonanza would have changed things some?  Oh, well, newbies, ... it's only opinon anyway.

For rifle I use a RCBS Rockchucker single stage and for most pistol cartridges I use a Hornady LNL AP.

For all of my pistol and my .223 bulk loading I use a Dillon 550 that I have had for 20 some years now and it is still going strong. For reloading the rifle rounds like 45-70, 6-284, 6.5-284, 7x57, 220 swift etc I use a Lee Classic Cast, I have had it for about 2 1/2 years now and it works very good.

Right now and for the past ten years or so I do 90% of my loading on a RCBS Ammo Master. Before that and for a very short time I used a brand new Lyman Turret. I didn't like the "flex" in the head unit and quickly put it back in its box. Where it has now sat for more then 10 years...  Just before that Lyman, for many many years, I used a red Pacfic press. Identical to the Hornady Press that followed after Hornady acquired Pacfic. It also much resembles the current LEE cast press. Lastly I have a Dillon 550. Its set up for 45ACP, 45LC and 223Rem. I loaded so many and so much I haven't needed to use it in a couple years. I started loading on a Spartan "T" press with my Dad back in the early 1970's.

As many of you know, I am no fan of the majority of Lee products. Mine is a opinion based on years of personal experience and almost 20 years of selling this stuff. Just so you all know I am no hypricate, I have the cheapest Lee press mounted to my bench. I use it strictly as a priming station with a RCBS press mounted prining tool mounted on top. The majority of my priming is done with a RCBS "auto prime". Both are visable in picture.

While on the three benches in the man cave you will find several different brands, my first and still my favorite is my Rock Chucker.

Lee Pro 1000 for handgun cartridges, RCBS Rock Chucker for rifle.  Lee has 10's of thousands through it, RCBS only thousands, wouldn't let either go willingly.

Lee classic cast for precision reloading, along with precision dies, tools, etc.  For pistol ammo, the New Hornady L andL AP with EZject is a super product.  Its glass smooth, and very well designed.

For 52 years, been cranking the handle on the same Herter's Super 3. Dad got it in '57. I 'inherited' it in '78. This Spring I will be adding an early '60's vintage Pacific O-Press. Dad 'inherited' it from my Grandfather in '74 and has decided to 'pass it along'. He is almost 82 and is slowing down fast. 'twill be a sad day in my life...but life goes on. However, my preference would be RCBS for all the reasons.

I started out with a RCBS Rock Chucker some 30+ years ago. It is my only press and I am still using it. I have thought about replacing it more than once, but it still loads up quality ammo and it is as tight as the day I bought it. I really have no good reason to replace it. The only thing I do not like about it is the way it handles pushed out spent primers. There is a tray that the primers are to fall in, but about 25% of them jump out on to the floor. I fixed that problem by buying the cheapest Lee bench press they sell and use it to punch out primers with. I think if I was to start over and had a tight budget, I would get the Lee Classic cast iron press. They do not look as finished as some of the others (squared off link arms), but they are solid and should hold up for a long time - a life time for most folks. I really think that is does not matter which press you get as long as it is cast iron. Get the one that has the features on it you want. Good Luck and Good Shooting

A new loader shouldnt be fooling with a progressive press. You need to learn on a good single stage press. You wont regret the purchase as even if you find a need to upgrade later the press will come in handy. the LAST press id ever recomend a new loader to buy is a lee pro 1000 or pro master. For the most part there just to finiky and will discourage a beginning loader and even get them into trouble very easily.

My first press 30 years ago was a rockchucker. I now use mostly 2 dillion 550,s ( large and small primers so I don't have to change ) and 1 square deal for pistol I shoot alot in leagues. All my shooting buddies use Dillions. One of my friends loves his Hornady and it sounds great because he does need all the expense of all my powder measures $$$

I like the RCBS Rockchucker. I have only used single stage presses, but this has been best for me. I suppose someday I will get a progressive for my pistol shooting, but I like the precision and strength of the RCBS.

Prefer?  I don't know about prefer :).  I USE a Lee Challenger press and have done so for around 5 years now, but that's because I'm a cheapskate (and to it's credit, it's worked fine for my uses).

That said, having compared Lee Dies to other company's, I would probably prefer a better press a lot more if I was ever exposed to it :).

I'm confused by the results so far on this poll. So far RCBS is preferred over Dillon, 5 to one. But whenever a newbie opens a thread about which press to buy, those replying and urging them to buy Dillon outnumber the RCBS referrals by at least the same margin. Does this mean that Dillon users are more vocal, or is it that the RCBS users don't want demand to drive the price of their equipment up?

Personally, I saw Flash's referral to new re-loader's and immediately thought RCBS Single stage press. I never think progressive for a beginner. I use the RCBS way more than I do my Dillon anyhow.
I also have a DILLON 550, its an excellent machine. IMHO Dillon is the best progressive makers available to us. His customer service is also top shelf.
