Ruger 10/22 Trigger adjustment?

Can i adjust the trigger on my 10/22  without any major modification? The gun is all factory.

The problem with it seems to be the trigger pull.It is unusally hard to pull.I have found it increasingly hard to get really tight groups with it the way it is.
After breaking the gun down and pulling the trigger assembly out,i cleaned it well,and oiled it up to possibly get any ease in pull that i could. It didnt help,but while it was out i decided to investigate the reason in the tighntess.I found that the trigger has a lip,or ridge made into the metal that holds the firing pin back.Can i file this and how much? Is this something that is done normally by 10/22 shooters that dont want to buy the aftermarket assemblies? Any other suggestions. Thanks. :grin:

Yes it can be done but it is not safe to do it without some experience with trigger stoning and it is safer to replace the sear and hammer with a matched set pre fitted and this will give a much cleaner and lighter pull without the worry of slam fires or a DANGEROUS trigger that can fire with a bump.......check rimfirecentral for some good suggestions and tips for smoothing the safe parts to make the action overall easier to operate smoothly.......good luck and good shooting!!

Unless you REALLY know what you're doing, leave it to a qualified gunsmith.  "bigdaddytacp" has given you good advice.  Me, I'd get a good after market adjustable trigger.  In fact that's what I did on all of my 10/22's(5 of them) and 77/22's(2 of them).  Simpler.  Easier.  Safer.  Lawdog
