As a continuing part of my therapy for my knee, Here's todays project.

1 - 2 inch to 3/4 copper reducer
3 inches 3/4 in copper tubing
1 - 45 degree 3/4 inch copper elbow
8 inches 3/4 inc copper tubing

Be sure and chamfer all the up hill pipe ends to a sharp edge, so no powder can hang up on the end

Pretty neat huh? So neat that Monday morning I am going to the hardware store and pick up a 12 inch piece of 3/4 soft copper tubing and do away with all the elbows and hard tubing.

Therapy's coming just fine. I think I could start driving again, use the stiff new knee for the gas pedal and the other leg for the brake, it never does anything any way when driving.

Double D, this is a great idea, I am going to make one with a long enough tube to use it with all my mortars (5 so far!) Got to use ridgid tubing tho, cause some are shorter than others, and if the tube were fexible, might get too many bends and impede the flow of powder. Just a thought. Plus, is flex tube smooth enough on the inside? I was thinking that would give more places for powder to hang up. BoomLover

I think by "flexible" he means the soft tubing that can be relatively easily bent.

Flexible copper tube is corrugated. soft comes coiled and rigid is straight rigid pipe.

Nifty! I'm gonna make one too. I just tip the bbl up as far as it will go and dump it in, but your tool's much better. Could probably make one from PVC.

Gotta remember to remove it before firing; that thing would be much less accurate than shooting the ramrod out of your Hawken

You have to take it out to load your ball. I considered PVC but passed due to concerns about static cling.

DD, Do you get static cling with the film cannister you are using to pour powder into the funnel?

If you can't get (or don't want to get a 50' roll) the soft copper and are 'stuck' with hard copper tubing, then you might want to consider using a 'street elbow' so that you have one less ridge (from the straight piece).

Further, if you solder it together in the right sequence, you could do a smooth fillet to bridge the shoulders on the inside of the tubing.

Did consider the street elbow. But it would have required a second size pipe for the street side of the elbow to fit .

No static cling in the film cannister. I don't know if you would get static cling in the PVC, I just eliminated it because I thought it might...besides PVC is not as sexy as copper.

This is the funnel set up I made in order to charge my mortar tubes and keeping hand away from muzzel just in case...

I also added a slight flare to the mouth of the copper tube.

Here's the new improved version made with soft tubing.

It doesn't look like much, but the mouth of the funnel is near pointing up 90 degrees so you can pour the powder in from the top and it will turn the corner and drop right into the powder chamber.

I'll be testing the elbow funnel and this the soft tubing funnel hopefully this week end and the see which works better. The winner will get soldered together.

Before you solder it together make sure it fits in whatever container that you will be storing it in. You might want to assemble it on site when you need it, and disassemble it for storage. Just a thought.

I like that tubeing, I used that on a cut off 30-06 empty and placed it in the chambesr to run hot water down to kill the salt primers years ago, Off to the shop nowto drill the chamber, Thanks- yous got great ideas,That will also work on my Doms. beer can mortar.
Started this afternoon at 1:00 on the chamber, Working with drills up to 1 1/8 and then with a boreing bar taking out .060 at a time in a old lathe it took 6 hrs total with a 20 deg. chamber on the 2 in. chamber and made a raduis to fit the ball that is 4 in. across the end of the 6 in. stock. The boss has 2 in. ball cutter and is going to finish the bottom in the CNN machince and it will have a round bottom, then drill the fuse hole, Got a piece of 2 in. by 12 in.-1018 for the tunnion and will mill the flat on it next, I have pics. that I took, I have the pic. host for this web site, but no matter what I do I cant down load the pics. I click on everthing but cant upload the pics. I have emailed the web site but get no answer, Whats wrong, Thanks
