Ruger GP100 Trigger Job
« on: February 22, 2009, 09:22:04 AM »
I just purchased a used GP100 .357 mag and would like to smooth out the trigger some.  I've heard that these guns really benefit from a good trigger job.  I've ordered the Wilson Combat spring set from Brownell's and plan to replace the stock set as soon as I get the gun home for good.  I would also like to get some info on doing a trigger job.  I've been doing some hobby gunsmithing in the past couple of months and have a good range of stones from 150 to 800 grit, along with some blue-green honing stones that do a nice job of smoothing out metal parts I've been working on lately.  If it's not too much to ask, pictures or even a link to a project online that someone has run across would be greatly appreciated!

Before you start stoning trigger parts, make sure that you have the knowledge of how triggers work. Without knowing how they work properly, you could make that GP100 a very dangerous gun. The spring kit from Wilson will reduce the trigger pull a great deal. If you decide that you want to try more advanced trigger work, get the AGI video on pistol trigger jobs. Then get a good stoning jig from Brownells to complete the job safely. Try the spring kit first and you may find that cures your problem.

Knuhnhausen's(sp.) book would be an excellant place to start. He gives very complete descriptions and gives pittfalls that may occur..

+1 to that! His books are the best if you happen to be working on a gun that he has written about, which does include the GP100.
