Shaving like that looks like a timing issue or too small of an opening on the forcing cone.  With the trigger pulled and the hammer held back; do you have side play in your cylinder? Some minor play is OK, Also get a wooden dowel as close to barrel diameter as possible and still slide relatively easily down barrel.  Push dowel down from end of barrel and see if it slides flawlessly all the way to the back of the cylinder, try on all cylinders.  If it hits the front of any or all cylinders, you have a timing issue.  My 357 SM has been shooting heavy loads since 1992 and is a little loose, but it still doesn't shave lead.  That degree of shavine; especially with jacketed ammo is dangerous as the striking of the forcing cone off center causes excess back pressure in the cylinder.  Don't shoot it again til you have it fixed.

blhof,
Thank you very much.  I will not fire the gun again until it is repaired.

Thanks Waldo!  I'm going to try to narrow down the problem first...then have it repaired.

Waldo,
It would seem the gun has problems greater than an improper forcing cone.

A friend and I looked it over today and found the barrel is miss-aligned so as to come in low to each cylinder opening.  Also, it appears that the angle is incorrect.  A double axis issue with the gun.

I would appreciate your contact information.

Sorry about not getting back sooner to you, seems I didn't any notification of a reply for some reason. Sounds like you may have one of the bad barrels that went out on some of the SuperMag's that I have heard about, some guys with spitters say they fixed the problem by changing barrels. I can't personally vouch that this works because my DW's, M15, 722, 715, and 744, all have perfect timing. Including the 722 with optional 22 magnum cylinder. Having owned several S&W's Ruger and others over the years all have left some lead on the face of the cylinder, my DW's do not leave a lead circle around the hole face. Most of the ammo I shoot is cast lead, very little jacketed ammo due to cost.

Bob:  Please keep us informed about what is wrong and what if anything DW/CZ does to make it right. Hope it all works out OK and that the costs are reasonable. Good luck.

It is definitely a timing issue.  Years ago when they were first introduced I bought on of the first .445SM DW revolvers  (ser# was 3 digits).  I was at the time the president of the local silhouette club.  To make a long story short.  I sent that gun back to the factory 5 TIMES, and eventually found by chucking in a lathe and indexing the chambers that they were'nt indexed properly.  I sent the gun back yet again and the factory returned it to me (again) without rectifying the problem.  I eventuall sold it to another club member and advised him of the fault.  I hope they take better care of you now than they did to me.

Good Luck,
If I agreed with you then we would both be wrong.

I hope to have the gun soon...they quoted a price to repair the gun, but have not seen it yet!
Fingers are crossed!

I recently sent mine in for endshake and reblueing.  I was told there is a 6 week backup, so I'll have to play with my Rugers til it's back.
