Contender Basics question

I read the sticky on FAQ and was wondering about using the 2 washers in the forearm.  What size washers and do you leave them flat, or bend them to the contour of the barrel??

I've used everything from steel washers(bent to the barrel contour) to rubber o rings to layers of electrical tape.  Lately someone on this forum, I think, made a suggestion that is working real good for me.  Cut up used 12ga shotgun shells.  I cut a square about 3/4" x 3/4" and drill a hole in the middle for the screw boss....works like a charm.  I even have a Encore Pro-Hunter forearm for a 12 ga barrrel that I use on Katahdin barrels and even standard contour rifle barrels by spacing it with a chuck off a heavy leather belt.  Shoots great!

If you are butting the washers up to the flat surface of the dovetail nuts mounted in the barrel, bending them to fit the contour doesn't do any good. I use a combination of a small flat washer and a small rubbr o ring. Works excellent on a Contender and keeps the screws from falling up during reinstallation.
