Gene "the cable guy" dropped by yesterday for a visit to let me know that within two weeks or less they will be ready to hook all of us in this area up to cable if we want it. OH BOY DO I EVER WANT IT I am sick and tired of Hughes and Direct TV.

It seems here packages are $33 each. So basic cable is $33, internet is $33, phone service is $33 and digital with DVR is $33. Toss in a few more bucks for caller ID and voice mail and the necessary equipment rentals and my monthly bill for all of it will be $145 he said. Currently with Hughes for internet connection and Direct TV for my TV and AT&T for local phone and Q-West for long distance I've been paying $218 or more per month and getting far less. For me switching to cable is a no brainer.

I still can't believe the money people pay to have advertising interspersed with garbage beamed into their homes... Haven't had a television since I moved out of my parents house. My kids don't know the difference, and I don't miss it at all.

I've never been in a situation where I wouldn't rather be doing something other than watching TV.

Depending on the cable company, you might be able to purchase the necessary equipment to avoid paying a rental fee i.e. cable modem.  In my circumstances the rental fees paid off the price of the modem within a years time.

Just in fyi for you to look into if you want.

I don't watch commercials. That's why I have a DVR. Record it and watch it later without the commercials. There is actually some interesting stuff on TV tho admittedly not so much so on network TV but even there a few shows are of interest to me.

I spend more time in front of my monitor here at GBO than watching TV. I hate cold weather so in winter there isn't much better to do inside anyway.

I gotta go with Graybeard on this one. Over the years I have had both Dish companys and every time a cloud came up the dish went off. In southern Kansas in the spring and summer you don't your weather channel goin off whenever a storm comes up. Went with cable as soon as I could get it and have no plans on ever goin back.

This is the first good rain we have received since we got the dish. No problems as of yet. It's raining pretty good too. Dale

We get some good rain here on the wet side of Washington state, and often, over 41" annually, never had a problem with Dish Network.  ???

We had a little light rain here today. I've not yet put my rain gage back out so haven't been able to measure just how much. My guess would be not much less than 4" so far. Satellite signal was off for a good while this morning so I got to play games on my game computer while waiting for the signal to return.

I sure was wishing cable was here already.

I recall once not so long after we moved here a terrible storm moved in on us. Just before we lost our satellite signal they informed us a tornado was bearing down on us. Then we lost the signal and had no clue what was happening with it. Real nice time to lose signal don't ya think? That's happened several times since.

Thanks but when cable arrives I'll never even think about satellite dishes again.

Oh 41" in a year would be considered a drought here.

I cut  the cable and went with AT&T.
I like the service, the computer hook-up and TV.
I watch some old movies. like the other channels but I really don't watch the TV as much as I used too. What I do watch is more informative than entertainment.
My son had direct and was fed up with lost programming and he went with AT&T.
So did my daughter and her husband.
Doesn't make you a bad person though. If we all fell in love with the same woman............ ;)
