Of 45 whatever Handi's
« on: February 24, 2009, 11:01:42 AM »
Sat down at my reloading bench the other night playing with 45-70 and 45-120 cases.  I loaded up 9 45-70's with MSP Ret's load so I could run them over my chrono like I promised him I would.  Hornady 350 gr. RNFP's with 28 gr. of 2400.  Should be a nice comfortable load... even for my youngest grand-baby!   ;D  But ol' Andy is getting on in years so I won't say anything like that to him.  Not wantin to hurt his feelins and all...  ;)

Now I thought this would be a good oportunity to conduct another statistically meaningless experiment and Andy agreed.  So I loaded 3 with 28 gr and no crimp; 3 with 28 gr and a crimp; and 3 with 28 gr, a crimp, and 1.5 gr of poly filler.  All used W-W cases and Federal LR primers with an OAL of 2.550.  Hopefully I'll get to the range this weekend.    :-\

That 6 pack long chore done, I turned my somewhat befuddled attention to those 45-120 cases.  Why not!  I says to myself and grabbed 6 of them.  I have a special fondness for that number...  :P  Anyway, when I was finished I had 6 rounds of 45-120 loaded with 5477 and 405 gr. Rems.  Or maybe it was 40.5 or 54.7 gr. of 2400...  ???  Mighta been 350 gr. Hornadys or 35.0 gr. a beer...  :-\   Had 2 open cans of powder and one of beer on the table... I gotta keep my bench cleaner...  :-[

Anyway  :) I know I used CCI magnum rifle pri ... uh, ... I hope I used rifle... mighta been pistol... see I just stack one box of each type of primer I have on my bench...   :-\:(

Oh well, I learned long ago to keep detailed notes of my reload... um, ... oh yah... I spilled a beer on them notes...

Ta heck wid it!  I'll see how they shoot before I go through all them mental gymnastics tryin to figger out what it was I done 'em with!   ;D

Buddy of mine came back from the sandbox......had a set of shot glasses/cups he made.....cut the tops off of 25 mm shell casings and polished them up.  Whenever he toasts he drinks from the shell case and toasts his fellow soldiers.

I'll answer all y'all tonight after I get home and take some pictures.

Obviously I lied...  :-[  But I'm here now!   ;D

This thread had some great responses!  But let me address this to any new folk or new reloadres out there who may not know me.   :P  There's not much in this life I take seriously, and my little reloading story was, of course, tounge-in-cheek.  I was playing on well established "never do's" at the reloading bench.  :D  But even the folk who know me and knew I was funnin about what I did still had a flicker of doubt in their minds!  Why?  Because people DO stuff like that!   ::)

Probably the best route is to never take anything I say seriously... I'm probably am talking through my butt anyway.   ;D

There, my disclaimer is done and I feel better!   :P

Anyway, how could things this pretty be dangerous!?  Andy's (MSP Ret) 45/70 loads flanking my 45/120 loads.  Sorry about the picture  :-[
