Korean Glock Mags-How are they?
« on: February 24, 2009, 04:59:37 PM »
A friend of mine saw some Korean made Glock magazines.  They are metal lined with the metal feed lips exactly like the glock originals.  Has anyone used them or have any experience with them?  Can anyone tell me if they are good or if they have problems?

Thanks,

Bob

I'll find out whenever I get to the range. I was at the gun store this afternoon and saw a pair in a nice  looking nylon (black) pouch for $20 bucks. Figured what the heck,  got them along with some other stuff.

As good as the Glock factory mags! Looks like the Koreans did it right.

Encouraging news! I may go get some more at that price. 24.99 for 2 mags and ballistic nylon holder is a good deal. The store, "KAMES", 8516 Cleveland Ave. N., in North Canton, OH, 44720, PH#3304994558, has them on a Fathers Days Sale. Ad says American Tactical Imports, Magazine pouch and 2 Magazines for Glock 17 or 19.

I've heard they are pretty good, especially the ones for the G 19.  I saw where one online retailer wouldn't do any refunds on the G 17 Mags....hope that helps.  They would be worth the gamble IMO, you can always use them as 'range mags' an keep your factory stuff for HD if you had any concerns.

I heard a good one on this. But, I've not attempted to verify it.

Glock approached RoK authorities and made them a a very, very sweet deal to equip them with pistols. Then, they attempted to re-coup some of that with a not so generous deal on mags. RoK told Glock, thanks..but no thanks...we'll make our own mags.  ;D

If you bordered North Korea you better do it right . . . if you want to survive.

Remember, the North doesn't really need missiles. They can hit Seoul with artillery!

While I'm not second-guessing anyone here who has direct experience with these Korean mags, my own experience is that most after-market mags should be avoided. By after-market, I'm referring to those made by independent companies.
To be sure, some independent mag companies are so good that they, in fact, make the mags under contract for the major gun companies.

Magazine retention in a Glock is done with a part made of plastic. Use of a metal magazine may cause that part to wear, eventually causing the magazine to sit lower in the magazine well and thus changing the feed characteristics. I recently discarded two cheapo all-metal Glock mags.

The Korean mags are pretty much a mirror image of the Glock mags as far as construction and material goes. There are some good aftermarket mags out there made for the more popular pistols. In my experience, I'll buy McCormic, Wilson, Novak, Meggar, metalform, and a few others who's names escape me at the moment. The Korean mags IMO belong in this group. "Pro Mags" I avoid at all costs!

+1 For Savage. I have McCormacks for my 1911 and they work flawlessly. Also, Meggar is the company that makes magazines for gun manufacturers. I would not hesitate to use Meggars or Mccormacks.
